Crisis in Ukraine; How JFS SV Will Help!
February 2022
Dear Friends,

We share the worry of the world as we watch the war unfolding in Ukraine. Many of us have loved ones in Ukraine – as well as throughout Eastern Europe – and we wonder what can be done.
There are an estimated 100,000-200,000 members of the Jewish community living in Ukraine. Some are already leaving the country, making their way on foot to neighboring countries who offer them temporary safe haven.

As the refugee resettlement agency for the Jewish community in Silicon Valley, we are ready to receive Ukrainian refugees – when they are released to come to the United States. We are a local affiliate of HIAS, with whom we are in constant contact. HIAS is closely monitoring the situation on the ground; and exploring additional partnerships including with Jewish organizations in the region.

As you may know, we are currently resettling hundreds of refugees from Afghanistan. We’ve welcomed over 250 Afghan refugees to our community since August, and anticipate another 170-200 in the next six months.

When will Ukrainian refugees arrive in the United States? No one has this answer yet. As this situation enfolds, and it becomes feasible and safe for refugees to arrive in the U.S., know that Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley will be there to accept, protect and welcome them. When we receive word that this is imminent, we will call on you  to join with us for your support. We pledge to keep you informed.

Please consider supporting our refugee resettlement efforts,  as we care for the newly arrived refugees in our midst as well as prepare for Ukrainian refugees to join our community.

In peace and fellowship,
Mindy
