Welcome to Another Summer!
June 2022
Dear Friends,

Welcome to another summer – hopefully full of fun outdoor activities, friends to see, and things to do.

So many of us have put things off to this time, and now we've begun to venture out again. It is our most sincere wish that you stay well and enjoy life.

Read on below for so many things happening at Jewish Family Services.

All the best to you and your family,

Mindy

P.S. What’s up with our logo? This month we celebrate Pride Month wherein we honor the struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community, and ensure that Jewish Family Services is a safe, welcoming place for all.
Thanks so much to our 500 guests!
We’re grateful to our many sponsors
who help ensure that we can do our important work.

Haven’t donated yet? There’s still time
to help JFS reach our $165,000 goal!

We look forward to seeing you at Good Evening
or Good Morning JFS! in 2023.

How You Can Help Ukrainian Refugees
We expect that the US government will begin the process of officially welcoming Ukrainian refugees to our country.

Help JFS SV get ready for this historic resettlement in Silicon Valley by supporting JFS SV’s Emergency Services for Refugees Fund.
Earmark your donation for Ukrainian refugees if you would like to be part of this effort.

In the meantime, we continue to assist our Russian and Ukrainian speaking Jewish Holocaust survivor clients, and to provide them with emotional support during this difficult time.
Save the Date for JFS SV’s Annual Meeting

JFS SV Needs Volunteers to Support Seniors

Fulfill the mitzvah of Bikkur Cholim by applying to an 8-week Community Volunteer Pastoral Aide training offered Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30PM. Participants will learn basic pastoral skills with teaching how to be present for our community's elderly, homebound, and disabled members.

Pastoral Aides conduct visits to facilitate spiritual and emotional healing. For more information, please contact Rabbi Barney Brickner, barneyb@jfssv.org.

Friendly visitor and phone buddies create lasting friendships with isolated seniors and disabled adults through weekly visits/phone calls. For more information, please contact Robin Feinman-Marino, robinf@jfssv.org.

Chaplain Aides bring Shabbat and holidays to older adult living facilities, to keep them connected with their Judaism.  For more information, please contact Robin Feinman-Marino, robinf@jfssv.org.

Household Goods
Please consult our Amazon wish list for newly arrived refugees:
“Can We Move Them? Yes We Can!”

We need volunteers to help with these moves!  Help pull furniture out of storage units, load items into moving trucks, and help unload and move items into housing. Weekdays and weekends.

For more info, please contact Robin Feinman-Marino, JFS SV volunteer coordinator at robinf@jfssv.org or Marlene Somsak, volunteer manager of moves at marlene.somsak@gmail.com
