These two concepts are at the forefront of the work of Jewish Family Services.
Throughout the pandemic we’ve found ways to connect people to our vital services and bring together caring volunteers with people who need them. Our work hasn’t stopped for a minute. In fact – we’re growing!
We’re expanding our senior and refugee services, and finding new ways of assistance through our Project NOAH Community Engagement Programs.
Stay connected with JFS. We’re here for you – especially as we return to a “new normal.”
All the best,
Welcome Lucy and Polina!
This past month we welcomed two new staffers to the JFS SV family: Lucy Istomina and Polina Gurvits. This month we’ll meet Lucy.
Lucy Istomina, is our new JFS SV Older Adult Care Manager
Lucy tells us,
“I am delighted to join this great team of people who are devoted to helping those in need. My heart is full of optimism to contribute my knowledge and experience as Older Adult Care Manager to the organization's mission, and provide proper care and services to local Holocaust Survivors. I see that as a chance to give back to the generation of my parents who went through the WWII hardship and fought against fascism and Nazism."
I am an immigrant from Russia with the background in finance. In the United States after two years of working as an accountant I decided to follow my heart calling and change my major. Thus, I went to a grad school to pursue a psychology degree and graduated from Sofia University receiving a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with specialization in Creative Expression.
My clinical career has included working with elders, domestic violence survivors, veterans, people living with mental illness and others."
After three decades of devoted service, Galina Chyorny is retiring. Galina has been a tireless champion for Holocaust survivors, refugees, older adults, and emigres. Our offices have been flooded each year with bouquet after bouquet on International Woman’s Day, brought by so many people who love and appreciate Galina and all the love she brings to her work.
Galina, we will miss you and know that you will always be part of the JFS family!
You are Not Alone: JFS SV Offers Spiritual Counseling and Group Support
We can do many things that may help us achieve overall wellness – like finding a reason to laugh, walking with a friend, meditating, playing with a pet, or working from home once a week. But sometimes we need professional support and treatment to set us on a path to recovery and wellbeing.
