PROGRAMS OF THE JEWISH FEDERATION OF EDMONTON

Our Parents' Home Sold

As of Dec 15, 2020, Our Parents' Home has been sold to Revera Inc. This is a decision taken after long deliberation by the OPH Board of Directors but one which, we believe will ensure the long term viability of Our Parents' Home.

Revera has agreed to continue with the existing culinary program at Our Parents' Home, as well as retain the name of Our Parents Home, the staff, and all of the programming that currently takes place.

The beneficiary of this sale will be the Jewish Federation of Edmonton. Details will be announced early in 2021.

The P2G Mifgash: A Virtual Backyard Get-Together

On Sunday, December 13th, under the charismatic leadership of The Edmonton P2G Committee, teens, teachers, and school administrators from Emek Hahula and Edmonton got together on Zoom for their annual Mifgash. The program kicked off with a beautiful shared photo album of backyards, city landmarks and favorite places in Northern Israel and Alberta, giving each community a chance to “visit” the other and get acquainted. During the meeting, the teens were center stage, 14 from Israel and 8 from Edmonton, as they lit Chanukah candles, sang Ma’oz Tzur, chatted and played “icebreaker” games. The Zoom breakout rooms were like a backyard BBQ, giving small groups a chance to exchange thoughts and have more personal conversations. The Israeli teens practiced their English and learned about Jewish life in the diaspora, while the Canadians experienced Israel from the point of view of their peers, not just their parents and teachers. Next, Edmonton P2G will offer virtual events for Tu BiShvat and Purim, further strengthening Jewish identity and building people-to-people connections.

Your gifts to UJA bring Israeli teens into our “backyards” and give our kids a chance to forge lifelong connections with Israel and its people.

If you have not yet made a gift to the UJA Campaign, please do it now. It is not too late for a 2020 tax receipt.

Why do we need this survey?
Jewish Family Services Edmonton is working with the Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies to explore a pan Canadian response to the vast unemployment resulting from the pandemic. NJHSA has engaged the Jewish Family Services across the major cities in Canada to gather employment information from their communities in the survey link below.
