| Jewish Federation of Edmonton |
| The ideals that motivate Federations are the precious heritage of our Jewish people. Our parents and grandparents brought these ideals to this country and we are charged with keeping them alive to hand on to our children and grandchildren. United and diverse, traditional and innovative, giving and accepting, the Jewish Federation of Edmonton celebrates the uniqueness of its members and, like a family, care for their own. |

Beth Tzedek Congregation
Your Conservative Alternative
A Beneficiary of UJA
Beth Tzedek Bids Farewell
It is with great sadness that Beth Tzedek Congregation announces that it will be holding its final Shabbat service this coming June 24th. In large part due to a declining membership these past several years, it often became a challenge to ensure a minyan for our regular Shabbat services as well as an appropriate turnout for the High Holidays and other holiday events.
Beth Tzedek has had a twenty-one year history within Edmonton's Jewish community. Most of that time was at the Talmud Torah location in the city's west end. Being a liberal-minded, fully egalitarian congregation that followed a Conservative tradition and liturgy we were pleased to be known as the "Conservative Alternative". Being a smaller but very participatory and community-involved organization, we were proud to be referred to as "the little shul that could".
During that time Beth Tzedek held regular Shabbat and High Holidays services as well as celebrating many bar and bat mitzvahs and other life-cycle events. We hosted all major Jewish functions including our annual communal Seders in the chapel room and held other holiday get-togethers at various members' homes. At the core of Beth Tzedek's sprit was the desire to give back to the community and in a broader sense uphold the spirit of "tikkun olam". Thus it was our pleasure, over the years, to hold several lecture series, movie and educational events as well as participating in larger forums like Mitzvah Day, Yom Hazikaron & Yom Haatzmaut, Remembrance Day, "Shabbat Across Canada", to name a few.
To all our members, past and present, who have devotedly given of themselves as well as our many friends, institutions and organizations within the Edmonton community ... we say "thank you". It has been a pleasure and a privilege.
Martin Bankey, Past-President
