JCC SoCo Board Member and Preschool family member, Jacob Bockelmann is currently representing the USA this month in Israel at the 2025 (delayed to 2026) Maccabiah Games. 


We wish him all the best on his return to the games after a successful competition in 2022!

Get ready to laugh and kvell with Swedishkayt: Yidlife Crisis in Stockholm, a warm and funny portrait of a community that thrives on resilience and reinvention, celebrating the quirky and surprising ways that language and identity continue to evolve.

Comedy duo Eli Batalion and Jamie Elfman bravely step on Swedish soil to unearth a hidden treasure trove of Jewish culture.



In this comedy documentary, the two are preparing for a live show as they unravel the little-known history of Sweden’s Jewish community. Through meshugenah encounters and eye-opening adventures, they discover how Yiddish became a protected government=recognized language in Sweden.

This film has been described as a joyous and warm love letter to Jewish happiness. At its heart, Swedishkayt isn’t just about Sweden or Yiddish; it’s about the persistence of Jewish life in all its forms.

Tisha B'Av is the deepest well of grief in the Jewish calendar.

This year, we will gather around sacred fire for an evening of communal grief tending. Sacred fire has accompanied the Jewish people throughout our history: fire on the altar, fire of revelation, fire of destruction, and fire that burns within each human heart.

On this night, we will enter the ritual first with teachings of Tisha B'Av, sacred fire, and the wisdom of grief as a pathway of healing. Then we will enter a space for song, silence, prayer, movement and tears.
