SONOMA COUNTY YOM HASHOAH COMMEMORATION
THURS, APRIL 19 • 6:30 PM
Santa Rosa, CA
This is a very special event and we're honored you'd like to join us. This year’s theme will center on the impact of the Shoah on children of survivors, who are now tasked with carrying on the legacy and experiences of their parents. Three of those second-generation survivors will discuss how those experiences have shaped their lives.
There will be musical performances, as well as candle lighting by Jewish survivors, lighters for the Roma, LGBTQ, Disabled, Righteous Among the Nations, and Political Prisoners, and those targeted by genocide.
This program is free and open to the public.

Join Rabbi Steve in our Community Room for three consecutive Thursdays in February as we learn together about the marvelous biography of Mordecai Kaplan, examining Kaplan's place in American Judaism and his own remarkable character and career.
These studies will be based on the book by Prof Joselit, who will share a conversation about Kaplan, her research, and her conclusions. The program is presented in partnership with The Melton Foundation.

Enjoy free popcorn and sodas and a rare theatrical screening of CST member Susan Stern's classic, award-winning documentary Barbie Nation, which explores the secret history and weird cult around the world's most controversial doll. Viewers over age 13 only; teens welcome. Doll nudity. Exotic Barbie conventions. Deep insights into sex roles, body image issues, LGBTQ fantasy and American nostalgia.
All questions answered at the following Tisch Friday, Feb. 13 with Director Susan Stern. Rabbi's Tisch: Susan Stern tells all on the making of her film Barbie Nation: How a Jewish woman created an American icon. Barbie, arguably the ultimate shiksa, was created by Jewish entrepreneur Ruth Handler who founded Mattel with her husband Elliot. All the legacy American toy companies -- Mattel, Hasbro, Ideal -- were founded by Jews.
Susan will share an intimate, 15-minute film of Ruth and Elliot at home and tell how she talked her way into Mattel and the Handler's trust.
