Melton returns to Rockland
Jewish adult education program to resume, with new financial model, continuing passion for teaching, learning

The thing about Jewish education is that most of the adult American Jewish world, other than the Orthodox part of it, doesn’t know very much about Judaism.

Afterschool Hebrew school is a grim slog for many kids, and has been for many decades, despite the hard work and dedication of many gifted Jewish educators. It’s very often a dispiriting challenge. And often Jewish adult education is an uninspiring, context-free meander through Jewish history’s greatest hits
Free measles vaccinations in Pomona
The Rockland County health commissioner, Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert, reminds residents to be vaccinated against measles. The outbreak in the county continues. As of July 8, there were 278 confirmed cases since it began in October.

Free MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccines are available at the Rockland County Department of Health, Building A, second floor clinic area, at 50 Sanatorium Road in Pomona. No appointments are needed. The clinic is open on Mondays July 22 and 29, from 2 to 4 p.m.; Tuesdays July 23 and 30, 2 to 4 p.m.; Wednesdays July 24 and 31, 9 to 11:30 a.m.; Thursday July 25, 9 to 11:30 a.m.; and Fridays, July 19 and 26, 9 to 11:30 a.m.
Do not stand idly by

For me, this was most definitely a first: a protest chant anchored in daf gemara (a page of Talmud). Rabbi Marcus Rubenstein of Temple Sinai in Middletown, in Orange County, had gathered 200 Jews and allies from the Orange County Hispanic community to protest inhumane conditions for incarcerated undocumented immigrants throughout the United States.
