After a busy week of campaigning at three great events in the 4th District, I was thinking of possibly skipping a weekly campaign update. So, while my TV screen last Friday was filled with an endless stream of illegal migrants trekking, rafting and wading across the border in the wake of the expiration of Title 42, a news-flash appeared on the screen – “House Passes the Secure the Border Act of 2023.” H.R. 2 passed the House 219-213. And, it was no surprise to see that Jim Himes, yet again voted Nay on this Bill.
The purpose of the Bill is to implement measures to support, clarify and facilitate the current immigration law of the United States. It requires the Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) to resume activities to construct a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border; authorizes grants to law enforcement agencies for certain border security operations; limits offering asylum eligibility only to non-U.S. nationals who arrive in the U.S. at an official port of entry; expands the types of crimes that may make an individual ineligible for asylum; imposes additional penalties for overstaying a visa, among many other actions necessary to implement and enforce existing law.
But, true to form over his 14 years in office, Jim Himes voted in lockstep with the radicals driving the agenda of the Democrat party. At this point in time there is no question among average Americans that it is the stated and demonstrated policy of the Biden Administration and the Democrats, to facilitate and maintain an ‘open border’ for the United States. Observation of the pronouncements, actions, and orders of the ominous, stone-face Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas can lead to no other conclusion.
Jim Himes knows this – he knows how completely exposed the Biden Administration has become on this issue. He knows there is no euphemistic word-salad which he can administer to his constituents on the border scandal. He is therefore verbally elusive. The Democrats are as exposed on this issue as they have made the citizenry to illegal immigration. Though Jim Himes has nothing much to say, we know last week’s despicable vote speaks quite loudly for him.
Maybe we can help him find his voice – we can call his office for an explanation, and respectfully and succinctly advise his staff of our disapproval with this vote on H.R. 2... or any other in the growing stack of such votes he has taken against the interests of the citizens of CT-4. And – that stack is relentlessly building by the week!
