Book Recommendations I read 50+ non-fiction books a year -- it's where I find ideas to help my clients grow their business. Below are the ones I read this past month.
The Sweaty Startup: How to Get Rich Doing Boring Things Nick Huber has written one of the most honest business books I've ever read. He says the odds for success are very low that you are going to be the next Musk, Bezos, Gates or Jobs but can be high if you're willing to throw yourself into an unsexy business that you build over time.
Lorne: The Man Who Invented Saturday Night Live An in-depth, thoroughly researched AND entertaining bio of Lorne Michaels: How hard he worked to enable Saturday Night Live to have such an enormous influence on American culture. If you're a long-time fan of SNL like I am, this is a MUST read.
Tequila Wars: José Cuervo and the Bloody Struggle for the Spirit of Mexico The story of Mexico's most famous export is a story of mind-boggling political, economic and familial intrigue. This book may be best enjoyed sipping an icy margarita. 🌵
Hannibal: Rome's Greatest Enemy Learn about Hannibal, a Carthaginian general who drove his troops (and elephants!) over the Alps into the heart of the Roman Republic.
Eminent Jews: Bernstein, Brooks, Friedan, Mailer Profiles of four Jewish individuals: Mel Brooks, Betty Friedan, Norman Mailer and Leonard Bernstein, whose creativity, drive and determination have had a remarkable impact on American society.
