Welcome to Da Coach's Corner for September 2023

The purpose is to inform, inspire and have a little fun along the way.

Summer's Over -- Time to Go Back to School I hope you had a fun-filled summer doing all the things you love. For me it's biking along the Chicago's Lakefront Trail, then jumping in Lake Michigan to cool down. Also, cooking with produce my wife Paula brings home from the Evanston Farmer's Market -- nothing beats Henry's Farm heirloom tomatoes. And of course, going to Wrigley to cheer the Cubs, see Dead & Company and hear Springsteen. Now it's back to school -- what will you be reading?

Maui Needs Aloha And needs lots of it, as one of the worst wildfires in recent memory has devastated the town of Lahina, with many dead or still missing. As expected the people there intend to rebuild, which will take years. You can help here.

Panic on the South Side Jerry Reinsdorf, owner of the supremely underachieving Chicago White Sox, fired the team's long-time vice president and general manager on the same day, then floated the idea that he would consider moving the team. I'm a Cubs fan but I'd hate to see them go -- I'd only have the Cardinals left to trash talk.

The BOSS Wore Me Out Again I've been a Bruce Springsteen fan since the first time I saw him play an almost 4-hour show back in 1974. So the day before my birthday I rode my bike down to Wrigley Field to hear him do "only" 3 hours of his hits. My question: He's a year older than me -- how on earth does he do it show after show???

PS -- Ukraine Not much is new to report on this slog of a war. Why do I post every month about this war? Because global democracy is at stake -- IT MATTERS TO ALL OF US. You can donate to the Ukrainian people here. ❤️ Or, you can buy a Ukraine candle -- all proceeds go to a not-for-profit there. 🇺🇦

Article Back to School, Fall 2023 Here are the 10 best books out of the 50 I read this past year. What have YOU been reading?

Book Recommendations I read 50+ non-fiction books a year -- it's where I find ideas to help my clients grow their business. I get them (free!) out of my local library. Below are the ones I read this past month. (Note: To comply with FTC regulations, as an Amazon Associate I earn a commission if you order any from the links below.)

Hidden Genius: The secret ways of thinking that power the world's most successful people Polina Marinova Pompliano, founder of The Profile, has interviewed hundreds of successful people. Here she share a host of ideas from them to help you tap into your own hidden genius.

Fool Proof: How Fear of Playing the Sucker Shapes Our Selves and the Social Order―and What We Can Do About It Ever get taken for a sucker? I certainly have, many times. Wish I had this one earlier in my life to save some serious humiliation.

10x Is Easier Than 2x: How World-Class Entrepreneurs Achieve More by Doing Less Strategic Coach founder Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy make the case the plodding along at 2x effort is not nearly as energizing as making a focused 10x effort.

Psychonauts: Drugs and the Making of the Modern Mind How mind-altering substances from the East came to the West in the late 1800's.

Financial Advisors I coach Financial Advisors around the country to help them grow their clientele. I always want to meet FA's, branch managers and/or fund wholesalers anywhere in the US. Your introductions are greatly appreciated.

Audio Recommendation Want great ideas from Earl Nightingale, Brian Tracy, Tony Robbins and other personal development superstars? You can always go to Nightingale.com for hundreds of hours of motivational/inspirational/educational audios to help you stay on track with success.

Contribution  There are lots of ways you can "Pay It Forward" for good karma. If you want to contribute to a military veteran's transition to a civilian job like I do, sign on as an advisor with ACP AdvisorNet.org. Also, the American Red Cross will always welcome you to donate blood.

Healing Thoughts If you would be so kind, please take a moment to send healing energy as I do daily to individuals you know who have serious health challenges or are dealing with difficult circumstances. Every positive thought helps, thanks.
