“You can't have a million dollar dream on a minimum wage work ethic.”
- Unknown
I had occasion to take my 11 year old son on his first offshore fishing trip this past weekend. For those fisherman out there, people were finally allowed to eat Snapper that they caught as opposed to buying at a restaurant or fish market. One of the firm’s clients, Wade Harris, who owns First Coast Mobile Car Care and provides fleet service for commercial vehicles, was kind enough to take myself and my family out on his boat.

Hanging out with my client and buddy just reminded me of how much we are alike and how similar the culture of most of our clients are to the culture of our firm. At Jimerson & Cobb we work hard, harder than anyone else. But we also play hard as well. Whether it’s preparing for an important motion or preparing to catch our limit of Snapper we will outwork everyone else. Our place of work is not a stuffy office with a bunch of lawyers listening to themselves speak. All of our lawyers know how to get to work, get those hands dirty and grind through whatever their task may be.

Our clients are typically no different in that mindset. I love working for some of the hardest working people I have ever met. I wanted to close this introduction to our newsletter by thanking our clients for living the American Dream through their hard work and determination and by leaving a few quotes for everyone to ponder.

“If a man is called a streetsweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of Heaven and Earth will pause to say, Here lived a great streetsweeper who did his job well.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Keep up the hard work and Jimerson & Cobb will continue to work tirelessly to protect our clients’ interests.

God Bless,
An affirmation of the firm's culture:
Fourth time's a charm!
As many of you know, Jimerson & Cobb takes employee satisfaction as seriously as the practice of law. We believe that fulfilled employees provide exceptional service to our clients. Therefore, we are extremely pleased to share the news about Jimerson & Cobb being recognized as one of the Best Companies To Work In Florida by Florida Trend Magazine... for the fourth consecutive year!

So how do we do that? It starts by taking a human-first approach to our business. In other words, the firm makes employee personal growth a top priority. Our experience has shown that promoting from within strengthens our company. That's because it helps to ensure earned knowledge and past success is built upon, rather than constantly reinventing the wheel.

Also, we believe team-building is a critical part of an effective firm. That's why we recognize achievement as a group, celebrate business wins together, enjoy holiday events with each other, participate in friendly competitions, and build lasting bonds with our colleagues. But along with that comes a dedication to work/life balance. Employees here love coming to work because they know what to expect, they have effective time management tools, and team members care about each other's well-being.

The firm is thrilled to receive this honor once again, because it means our employees feel fulfilled, they enjoy their coworkers, and each day at work they are motivated to seize the day.

New Careers Section launched on the Jimerson & Cobb website
In late June, Jimerson & Cobb attorneys and staff completed recorded interviews in our large conference room. The subject of each interview was to answer many of the frequently asked questions ("FAQs") that prospective employees typically have when applying to work at the firm. After all the footage was shot, individual HD videos were edited and prepared for online viewing. A total of 12 videos were created, providing over an hour of finished content. Then, all were posted on our YouTube channel for public viewing.

In addition to these videos, we took much of the scripted content and added everything to our website in three sections. The three sections are tailored to:

Jimerson & Cobb is renowned for its fun and energetic workplace, which has been carefully cultivated over the past decade. That positive reputation has been reinforced by awards (such as the recent Florida Trend Magazine recognition mentioned earlier), as well as client satisfaction and praise about the consistent results achieved by our hardworking team.

So it all starts with the right people, focused on the goals of our clients. We are very excited about where Jimerson & Cobb is headed, and look forward to announcing the new additions to our team over the next year.

How Do You Become A Roofing Contractor In Florida?

The last two years, Florida was severely impacted with Hurricanes Mathew and Irma. The damage caused by these storms increase the need for roofers to repair storm damage.  As a result, many people are seeking to take advantage of this by becoming licensed roofers. Chapter 489, Florida Statutes and 61G4-12 through 23, Florida Administrative Code sets forth the requirements for an applicant to achieve initial licensure. This blog post will discuss the requirements for initial license of any individual who wants to become a certified roofing contractor in Florida.

How To Know If Your Website Needs To Be ADA Compliant In Florida

Title III of the American’s With Disabilities Act (“ADA”) provides that people shall not be discriminated against on the basis of disability in the “full and equal enjoyment” of goods, services, privileges, facilities or accommodations. Under Title III, private businesses must make reasonable accommodations for disabled persons so they can fully participate if the businesses are places of public accommodations. For example, businesses are required to be wheelchair accessible. A list of businesses that qualify as “places of public accommodation” can be found here. This brings up an important question on whether a website must be ADA compliant.

What Is A Contest Of Lien, And How Does My Association Respond To It?

You’re the President of a condominium association or an HOA. You’ve had a problem owner for years—someone who doesn’t pay his assessments. Or when he does, payment is late and he incurs penalties and interest, and then later fights those penalties and interest. The owner is basically a drain on the association’s budget and time, causing management multiple headaches per month. After deciding enough is enough, your association authorizes the association’s attorney to initiate the lien process.

Jimerson & Cobb Summer Community Service Project
During the summer, staff at Jimerson & Cobb, P.A. collected school supplies and donated them to the Anthony J. Stinson Association for Change for elementary and middle school students.

This community non-profit organization was founded by Anthony's father after his teenage son was shot and killed. It's mission is to restore peace in the Northwest Quadrant of Jacksonville by helping bring an end to neighborhood violence. The Association has a geographic focus on zip codes 32206, 32208 and 32209.

Through play, life lessons, and a lot of love in a safe haven, staff teach children and teens how to communicate with words instead of violence, creating a lasting connection within the community.
ParTee! Firm Summer Celebration At Top Golf Jacksonville
Stormy clouds and rain did nothing to dampen the Jimerson & Cobb spirits on August 2nd. After work, the firm headed over to Top Golf to celebrate our Summer Associates, Evan Reid and John Rutledge, before they head back to school. Between long drives for high scoring, we all shared our favorite memories together from this year. This came on the heels of the previous week's 8th annual Mini Golf Championship in which Brandon, Clayton, Evan and Henry won the top honors.
New Video Series: J&C Lawyers Explain...
J&C Lawyers Explain... is the lighter side of current events, from a Jimerson & Cobb attorney's perspective. Each month, a different lawyer is spontaneously presented with a question about a relevant topic, for them to comment on completely off-the-cuff. Attorneys are not provided the question ahead of time, and the video is all shot in one take, without any edits. If you have a funny and timely question you'd like us to consider our lawyers answering on YouTube, email [email protected] .

This month's question was answered by Attorney Clayton T. Osteen : " Everyone knows Mambo #5, but as I understand it, you have some personal knowledge about the production of Mambo #4. Can you tell us about that song and your role in its making? " To view his humorous response on YouTube, click here .
