Oh the weather outside is frightful, but our party will be delightful! Dec. 16 at 3 p.m., join the O’Brien Institute and the Department of Community Health Sciences for our annual holiday bash, with a twist.

We will be convening virtually this year, but there are still treats, entertainment and holiday cheer to go around. There will also be remarks from Dr. Tom Stelfox, Dr. Fiona Clement and the O'Brien Institute award winners will be announced.

And, importantly, we need your help to make this year’s party one to remember:
  • Bring the jingle: Enter our holiday song contest by submitting a pre-recorded rendition of your favourite holiday song or skit – keep it classic, or add your own spin, it’s up to you!
  • Support the Client Action Committee and Calgary Homeless Foundation’s Longest Night of the Year initiative, either through volunteering your time or funds.
  • Be sure to register by Dec. 4 to ensure you receive a special holiday treat.

Our next 10 years of IMPACT - O'Brien Institute Town Hall
As the O’Brien Institute approaches its next decade, a Town Hall on Nov. 3 served as the starting point for an Institute-wide discussion about its future, and as a welcome to new Institute Scientific Director Dr. Tom Stelfox.

The O'Brien Institute for Public Health at the University of Calgary supports excellence in population health and health services research, while realizing the benefits of such research by using that knowledge to inform community, policy and health practice stakeholders.

The Institute's membership includes more than 500 multidisciplinary researchers from 13 Cumming School of Medicine departments, nine additional University of Calgary faculties, including Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Kinesiology and Arts; health professionals in Alberta Health Services; and, research users and policy makers from municipal and provincial institutions. As an Institute, we share a vision of "better health and health care," reflecting our two priority research areas of Improved Population Health and Enhanced Health Systems Performance.

The Institute's success in brokering broader external relationships with provincial and national interest groups, policy makers, research agencies, the media, philanthropists, and community stakeholders, further extends the reach and impact of our members' significant research outputs.
