A Few Words From Your Principal.....

A reminder that our students and teachers have Monday off in recognition of Columbus Day.  Students and teachers return to school on Tuesday, October 10th.

The end of the 1st grading period is just a couple of weeks away.  October 20th is the last day of the first grading period.  I know our students want to have the best report card grades possible.   Here are a few suggestions to help our students achieve their goal.
  • Check your grades in FOCUS/Parent Portal.
  • Look closely at the common summative assessment grades as they make up 95% of the total grade.
  • Contact your child's teacher as soon as possible if you have any questions or concerns about the status of a grade.
  • Attend school on a regular basis.
  • Submit all assignments.
  • Do you very best!
The above may sound like common sense but I often see students hit panic mode on the last day of the grading period or after it has ended asking for ideas to improve their grades.  Plan ahead and do your best.  That's a formula for success!

Here's a special shout out to our Lady Hornet Volleyball team for earning a spot in the middle school volleyball playoffs.  Only the top 4 middle school teams get the honor of competing for the championship title.  I am very proud of our girls and Coach McKinney for their work.  Best of luck vs. Mowat on Wednesday!

Class Charts is a great way for parents and/or guardians to stay informed about their child's behavioral progress at school.  Parents have their own unique log in to Class Charts.  You can access Class Charts by visiting www.ClassCharts.com or downloading the free app.  To obtain your parent log in to Class Charts, please email jinksprincipal@gmail.com.  I will forward your log in information to you.  Parents or guardians may also stop by our school any time you are in the neighborhood to pick up your log in information.  This is a great resource and I encourage you to take advantage of it.

Have a GREAT School Week!

Go Hornets!

And the Big Deal Award Winner Is....

Congratulations to Donovan Mosley, Jr. for being recognized as Jinks Middle School's Big Deal Student of the Week.

When nominating Donovan for this award, Donovan's teachers wrote about his work ethic, commitment and determination to attend our school's open house with his mom.  This commitment and determination included him walking home only to return along the same path but this time pushing his mom's wheelchair so she could attend with him.  It was that important to Donovan and his mom to be part of our special night.  AWESOME!!!!

Donovan's care, concern and support of others does not stop with his family.  Donovan is constantly helping peers, teachers and just about anyone else on our campus who needs a helping hand.  It goes without saying that Donovan is the type person you want to be your friend.

Donovan is a great example of the wonderful students at Jinks MS and we think his desire to help and assist others is a "Big Deal!"  Congratulations and thank you for making a positive difference in the lives of others!

Box Tops for Education

Dear Parents:

I just wanted to let you know some exciting news about Box Tops for Education!

There are several ways that you can help Jinks Middle School get money from Box Tops.

1) The first way is the old fashion way.  Buy products that have Box Tops on them, clip them and turn them in.  Each one is worth 10 cents for our school.  Just look for the pink Box Tops logo on hundreds of products.  We will be having several contests throughout the year, so you may want to keep them to turn in at contest time to help your class win!

2) The second way to can get Box Tops is by signing up at BoxTops4education.com .  This site has sweepstakes and coupons.  Sweepstake winners get prizes such as 50,000 Box Tops for their school.  There are also games and other ways to win.  Sign up is free!

3) The third way to get Box Tops is to download the Box Top app to your phone.  There are offers from stores you buy from, like Sam's, and others.  All you do is find the offers, buy the products, scan your receipts and watch the earnings stack up.  If your store has a customer rewards card, sometimes they offer box tops, too.  Many times you can get the extra Box Tops from the app and still cut out box tops.  Presently we have $18 from this app and I'm the only one that's been using it!  Think of what we could get if all would do it.

Thank you for your participation in Box Tops for Education!  Keep clipping, logging on and downloading and let's make this the best year ever for Jinks!

Sincerely,

Cay Commander
Box Top Coordinator

Parent/Guardian Leaders Needed!

Jinks MS needs parents and guardians to serve on our school advisory council and PTO.  The minimum commitment is to attend the 4 meetings held during the school year.  You will be involved in important decisions regarding our school and will also be able to approve the expenditure of funds such as school recognition funds.

To learn more about this leadership opportunity simply contact Ms. Helen Mitchell, Jinks MS AP.  She will be glad to assist and answer your questions.

Count Me In!

Did you know w hen students improve their school attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating from high school?  Students who miss 2-4 days of school in August and September go on to have chronic absences that doom their potential to achieve at grade level.

We want our students to be at school each and every day!  That's the Jinks Way!!!

Count Me In! is a group of concerned parents, teachers, administrators, community members and (soon) students who are dedicated to removing barriers and promoting regular school attendance.  You can be part of this movement by promoting regular school attendance or joining our committee.

Students are encouraged to stop by the Count Me In! table during orientation and pick up information about this program as we need you to help us make being at school a positive habit that will not only improve your grades but one day will make you a favorite of your employer!

Do You "LIKE" Us?
