Congratulations New CMPs!

I have crossed paths during their preparation through a mixture of my 16-hour virtual classes, my two-day in-person classes, the MPI Global Master Class, my videos, and some random conversations. I am very proud and happy for you, and it means a lot to have been part of your journey.
Things That Interest Me...and Maybe You (Part 1)

Smallest Countries in the World
For some reason, these tiny countries have fascinated me since I was very little. Having grown up in the US, the idea that countries could be smaller than our smallest states just amazed me. And these are real countries –not ones made up for Hallmark Movies (which I have been watching too many of!)

Meetings and Events

The Qatar World Cup is already going viral for all the wrong reasons
It is never a good sign when your event is being compared to the Fyre Festival

Active Shooter Plan
As I write this in the past few days there have been mass shootings in Colorado Springs and two in Virginia. I recently said in my class that prior to Covid this was our biggest safety focus. It looks like it still is. This article shows what steps New Jersey recently took.
I went to probably 5 sessions on this topic in the two years before the pandemic. Lots of good information, but one of the best steps given, was if one is happening, turn off the reader boards immediately. It lists what rooms people are in and gives maps to get there. I thought that was a simple, but very effective action.

Why Sustainability is Smart Business for your Meetings
I remember this used to be the biggest pushback on being more “green” as it was called.
“It cost more!”. Is that true anymore? And does that really matter?

TSA PreCheck Vs Global Entry (US)
About 10 years ago I attended a session at an industry conference, that was presented by a TSA official---before you grown and eye roll thinking this would be horribly boring—it wasn’t . He was a great presenter and had tons of information. One thing he talked about was the TSA Pre Check which was really getting popular, and the Global Entry. Based on the information he shared, we went right for Global Entry and have been grateful even though I have only used it 6-7 times—so worth it. Here is one article that explains the difference. My advice? If you are going to travel internationally from the US it is worth the extra money to get Global Entry.
During that session he shared the TSA Twitter account (they also now have Instagram) which I started following. It is both funny (really!), but also if you think these people don’t do anything, it will change your mind. @TSA

You Could be Charged for Wasting Food
Is that such a bad idea? I have been told for years by caterers, that when people argue that a buffet should be so much less expensive than a served meal, that it is the food waste that drives up the price. Oh and especially with kids, although I know a lot of adults who take way more than they eat.
