Things That Interest Me...and Maybe You (Part 1)

Good Problem Solving Creativity
Only about half of these deal with travel, hotels or hospitality, but I thought there were some very interesting problem solvers here from around the world. I think we could use the mirrored quotes at meetings and events…and probably sell the sponsorship!

Update from EIC including about the CMP of the future
In case you have been wondering where the exam is going…

Candle Lighters
When “fueled” candle lighters came out, everyone thought they were the greatest thing! No going through a box of matches, or burning yourself to light all those votives at your events? At the beginning there were ones you could refill. I am guessing no one did that, so that disappeared and people just tossed them out when the fuel was going. This really started bothering me in the past few years---talk about waste and not being sustainable. Also I always questioned the safety of the fuel---those lighters would get thrown around everywhere!
Recently I bought  (through Amazon) an ARC lighter that is rechargeable with a USB port---talk about a great part of our “Planner Kit”!  It works really well with candles---I have not tried it on anything else. You cannot take it on a plane due to the lithium battery.

One of Oprah’s Favorite Things  is this one---it has a flashlight on it too so you can see the wick!

Meetings and Events

How Effective are Travel Boycotts—Really?
I think this issue, with different topics, will be something we as meeting and event professionals will be dealing with for many years. Know where your organization stands on it with every topic, and plan accordingly.

Neuroinclusive Events

Should Conference Organizers Pay Their Speakers
I have been on both sides of this conversation with Associations…Yes I do have thoughts on it. Maybe for a future podcast.

Perks of Taking Joanne’s CMP Class

Access to Joanne’s CMP Community!

This online community is open to anyone who has worked with me on their CMP, either through my personal class or a class I taught through an organization.

The goal is to offer you a space to network with fellow planners and suppliers, find study buddies or cheerleaders on your journey to CMP, and keep track of me and my company news.

What makes this community platform different is that, in addition to connecting people of similar interests and experiences, it also serves as a place to learn about industry news, discover events and job opportunities, gain knowledge from experienced professionals, and so much more!

If you have taken Joanne’s CMP class, but have not yet joined the community, request to join today! - We recommend you use your personal email address.
