National Job Corps Launches New Career Development Program
    
In a recent Open Line letter, Job Corps National Director, Lenita Jacobs-Simmons, announced a new career development program that will change career planning for Job Corps students.
 
The new program is called MyPACE, (My Pathway to Achieving Career Excellence) and includes a blended learning curriculum, a technology tool, lesson plans and robust, ongoing student engagement that allow Job Corps participants to set and track their achievements and connect with future sustainable-wage, high-demand jobs.

Staff for New Milwaukee Job Corps Contract
 
Earlier this month, ResCare Workforce Services began operating the Milwaukee Job Corps Center in Wisconsin. 
 
The center is one of several Job Corps operations managed by  ResCare Workforce Services, which has more than 40 years of experience in managing centers and programs that help young people ages 16-24 prepare themselves for employment, advanced education or military service. 
 
The leadership staff has quickly built a competent team that is working to deliver life-transforming services to the participants at the Milwaukee Job Corps Center.  However, there remain several important staff positions that need to be filled.  They include:

Juvenel Levros Joins ResCare Workforce Services  
as Center Director for Milwaukee Campus
 
ResCare Workforce Services recently hired Juvenel Levros as the Center Director for the Milwaukee Job Corps Center.
 
Levros joins the ResCare staff with more than 10 years of experience working with adolescents in both Job Corps and residential treatment programs.
 
Most recently, he served as the training director at Blue Ridge Job Corps Center and has previously functioned in roles from residential advisor to center director at other Job Corps centers.
 
His experiences working with Job Corps centers of varying staff compositions and on-boarding strengths has him well-prepared to build a high-performing culture for staff and participants at the Milwaukee Job Corps Center.

Gary Job Corps Honors Safety & Security Supervisor
as December Employee of the Month

Matthew Santy was selected as the December Employee of the Month for his outstanding dedication to the Gary Job Corps Center and the surrounding community.

Matthew has been employed by the Gary Job Corps Center for two years as the Safety & Security Supervisor.   He is a criminal justice graduate from Texas State University.   
 
Training Director, Booker Presley, said Santy received the award because "he was very brave in his intervention with a distraught student.  He took extreme and selfless measures to keep the student from harm."

Report Shares Best Practices for Creating Sustainable Career Pathways for Disconnected Youth
  
A recent report by the Center for Promise shares the results of five years of research to determine how society can better support young people in graduating from high school and transitioning into college and careers. 
  
The report captures several key themes that include:
 
  • Why youth leave school
  • The critical role relationships play in encouraging healthy youth development
  • How workforce programs can re-engage disconnected youth
The retrospective look at the center's work over the past five years focuses on the challenging life experiences that confront many young people and examines effective strategies that help them find success.
