Beware of Bats!

Bats are highly beneficial animals to the ecosystem, but they should be appreciated from a distance. Bats are known carriers of rabies which can be a fatal disease. They are encountered more frequently during the fall because of their migration and search for a warm winter home. If you encounter a bat, contact Animal Care and Control at (847) 377-4700. Never touch bats or attempt to remove them from your home.
Check out our latest video to learn what you can do to protect yourself, your family and pets from bats and rabies. You can also find more tips in our recent press release .

Don't Be Duped!

Lake County Recorder of Deeds, Mary Ellen Vanderventer is warning residents there are companies contacting Lake County homeowners in an effort to provide you with a certified copy of the deed to your home for an outrageous payment of $87.00.
You don't need to pay a company for this service. All requests for copies of deeds should be handled directly through the Recorder's office.  The average deed is four pages or less, with a copy fee of only $1 per page.
I would encourage anyone with a question, concern or need for a copy to contact the office directly at (847) 377-2575.
They will be happy to send you whatever paperwork you need, at the statutory cost, without any handling or postage fees.
There may come a time when you do need to reference the deed to your home. As often happens, people misplace their deeds or in some instances, never actually received the original deed at the time they purchased their home. Please contact the office directly.
