The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve.
The DMHAS, Office of the Commissioner (OOC), currently has eight (8) vacancies for the position of DMHAS Investigative Aide within the Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program (TPEP), located at 410 Capitol Avenue in Hartford, CT. These positions are part-time. There are no benefits associated with these positions. The work schedule, days and hours, will be determined. Applicants will perform both State and Federal Tobacco Compliance Inspections in all towns in Connecticut. Please note you must be 17 to 19 years old at the time of hire.
Our mission is to ensure retailer compliance with state and federal age requirements for the purchase of tobacco products to prevent youth access to tobacco. Applicants will work under the supervision of a Special Investigator.
This role will require that you:
- Attend an in-depth training;
- Be available three days a week during first shift Monday through Saturday;
- Provide your own transportation to an agreed upon location;
- Pass a background check and comply with Connecticut’s vaccine mandate; and
- Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
Functional duties of this role:
- Perform undercover compliance inspections at tobacco retailers throughout Connecticut;
- Determine if retailers are acting in accordance with State and Federal regulations that prohibit the sale of tobacco to persons under 21;
- Handle State and Federal tobacco funds and evidence; and
- Testify in court proceedings when required.
These positions will end no later than September 30, 2022.
