Description & Details:  The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) at NDSU is seeking an energetic and outgoing candidate for our Local Road Safety Liaison position. If you like to interact with and work with people, this is the position for you. The primary objectives of this position are to: (1) Participate in NDDOT’s Vision Zero Plan updates, advance the updating of Local Road Safety Plans, and support the Vision Zero Implementation Plan.; (2) Be the Liaison between local/tribal agencies and the NDDOT related to Roadway safety; (3) Organize local/tribal Roadway Safety Audits (RSA) & Provide Safety Training to local/tribal agencies; (4) Support the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) goals and the use of AASHTOWare Safety Software; & (5) Attend Public Input meetings and/or City/County meetings as necessary


Work Schedule: TBD


Hiring Range: $62,000 - $83,000 DOE

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations. 


Location:   

Bismarck or Fargo as the official office location, but could be hybrid within the state of ND.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or ability to obtain by January 2027
  • Familiar with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
  • Familiar with AASHTO’s “Roadside Design Guide”
  • Familiar with AASHTO’s “A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets”
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate or ability to obtain by January 2027
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Excellent technical communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and 2-years of experience as a Traffic engineer
  • Registered Professional Engineer
  • Worked with or for a Local Public Agency (County, City, or Tribe)
  • Experience collecting, analyzing or using traffic data
  • Experience with speed studies, Crash Modification Factors (CMF)
  • Experience working with Public and Elected Officials
  • Proven communication skills, teamwork, troubleshooting, and diagnosing
  • Presenting at conferences and/or speaking in front of large groups of people

Description & Details:    

The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute (UGPTI) invites applications for a unique position to assist the big four oil counties in western North Dakota. This is a full-time benefited position. The position duty station is the NDDOT office in Williston. Consideration will be given to applicants residing outside of the oil country region. This position is an add-on to the North Dakota Local Technical Assistance Program (NDLTAP) team, funded through a special project with the NDDOT. The NDDOT contract is through the end of 2029. The NDLTAP office is located in Bismarck. Some time may be spent at the Bismarck office. The position will be responsible to lead an effort to help the counties plan and enhance their regional efforts and transportation investments. The position will cover Dunn, McKenzie, Mountrail and Williams Counties; along with communities in the four-county area and the Mandan Hidatsa Arikara (MHA) Nation. The individual will have the opportunity to utilize their strengths in contributing to a growing program of research and knowledge transfer. Exceptional communication and organizational skills are essential.

Hiring Range:  $75,000-$95,000 /+DOE

Bismarck as the official office location, will be based out of Williston, but could be hybrid within the state of ND.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, business, engineering, construction management or related degree. 
  • 10 years of experience in the transportation field. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Good computer skills with experience in MS Office. 
  • Job experience with providing customer service and/or organizing meetings. 
  • Good organizational skills in prioritizing tasks and managing multiple activities. 
  • Ability to work independently. 
  • Ability to assist with transportation capital improvement plans, solid knowledge of urban and county roadway planning and a good grasp of asset management for transportation system. 
  • Experience presenting to commissions. 
  • Understanding of transportation funding and policies

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Field experience on transportation projects. 
  • Professional Engineer status.
