October 2019 Unemployment Rate
The unemployment rate in Ventura County was 3.3 percent in October 2019, up from a revised 3.2 percent in September 2019, and below the year-ago estimate of 3.7 percent. This compares with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 3.7 percent for California and 3.3 percent for the nation during the same period.
Key Sector Highlights
Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 128,000 in October, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 3.6 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Notable job gains occurred in food services and drinking places, social assistance, and financial activities. Within manufacturing, employment in motor vehicles and parts decreased due to strike activity. Federal government employment was down, reflecting a drop in the number of temporary jobs for the 2020 Census.
Conference Board - Help Wanted Online Data
The Conference Board Help Wanted OnLine® (HWOL) Index: fell in October and now stands at 100.5 (July 2018=100), down from 103.5 in September. The Index declined 2.9 percent from the prior month and is down 1.4 percent from a year ago.
