We want to inform and connect with the entire Job Path community
so we are all on this path together.
| | At the NYC Poetry Festival? Of Course! | | Snaps to the Job Path bards of “Poets, Of Course,” who performed at the July 12 New York City Poetry Festival on Governors Island. It was a day filled with beauty, insight, and inspiration, as you can see from this video of poets Anthony N. and Amy Robles, who performed the piece Answering Pablo Neruda. | | |

Questions for God
I want to see you.
Are you real or fake?
I want to ask you, why do people die?
Why do people punish?
Do you have a big body?
Why did you make trees and water?
Do you have a baby?
What is his last name?
-Noemi U.

Biweekly payroll reminders from Joanne always come with something a little extra: Memes -- so we had to make HER into a meme!
How did you get started sending funny memes? I wanted to bring smiles and laughter to all who need it. I have been nicknamed bubbles and sunshine in the past since I enjoy spreading the love and kindness that is lacking in today's world.
| | | What skill helps you with your work here at Job Path? A skill that really helps me out is my patience, especially when approvals are running late - LOL! I also think that my sense of humor helps. | |
What's something that few people know about you? I write poetry! | | What's your favorite thing about Job Path? My favorite thing about Job Path is the company culture. Everyone is friendly and helpful, especially when I first started here. | | What's your favorite meme? My favorite memes are the ones with the cute animals, but I also do love the Minions. | | | Jim and Ben collaborate in JP's offices. | | |
Kudos to Jim Avanzino and Ben Wollner for their article in this summer’s edition of Autism Spectrum News. It was brilliant how simply they explained Customized Employment and how we work every day to support participants as they defy stereotypes - something we all can do.
“For our participants, success is found by helping to build their confidence to help them focus on what they can do when so much of their lives they’ve heard about all the things they can’t do. And they do have strengths—lots of strengths.”
I couldn’t agree more!

Poly Prep Country Day School shared a story on their website about James O. and his 9 years of success working at the Brooklyn independent day school. (James is supported by Job Path, which created the Consortium, and is one of the active members.)
We particularly liked this quote from the team at the library, one of several departments where James contributes his talents:
“James is a valuable member of the library team whose work ethic and self-advocacy have been inspiring to witness. He’s not only a pleasure to be around but an asset to the library. His dependability, initiative, and good humor are only a few reasons why we appreciate him.”
| | CCE is a project of Job Path that brings together 14 New York City social service agencies to expand the reach of customized employment to serve even more job seekers. | | This week on Thursday Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. we'll be hosting Job Path's annual summer picnic for participants and staff. For arranging support or transportation, participants, please speak with your Program Coordinator or Employment Specialist/Counselor. | | | | In case you missed it ... | The Ruderman Family Foundation, working with the Geena Davis Institute, studied disability representation in more than 300 scripted TV programs from 2016 to 2023, and a recent report found that nearly 80% of characters with disabilities were played by non-disabled actors. | | |
“The report calls for industry-wide changes, including increasing opportunities for creators with disabilities, implementing authentic casting, and normalizing disability in storytelling.”
Two recent entertainment projects are the exception to that rule. One is Being Heumann, the life story of disability rights activist Judy Heumann, who was instrumental in the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this month. The Apple movie project will star BAFTA-nominated actress Ruth Madeley, who was born with spina bifida.
The other is the PBS crime drama Patience, which started streaming on TV this summer. It stars Ella Maisy Purvis, a neurodivergent British actress as Patience Evans, who works in a criminal records office and “helps the police tackle a series of challenging cases by bringing her unique insight to crimefighting.”
