Coach's Corner
with Scott Walker
Greetings to you from your Success Coach! Your employer wants you to be successful and has invited me to come to your workplace through the JobSTAR program each week.

I have been working in this role since April of 2018 and I have been here for you and for other employees to help solve issues that can get in the way of work. I can help with things such as: health care, food assistance, transportation, housing, and child day care.

If you have a problem that comes up in your life and you’re not sure about how to handle it or where to go for help, please drop by and see me. You and I will speak confidentially about your concern and I’ll try to help you find solutions.

If you have an issue on a day that I’m not assigned to your workplace, you can reach me by phone, text or email. No problem is too small! If I don’t have an idea on how to help, I will consult with other community professionals to find the best resources for you.

JobSTAR Success:
Dave's Story
Dave is a new employee with one of the JobSTAR businesses in Jackson. He recently moved from Grand Rapids to Jackson to take on his promising new job. The cost of moving and the wait for a first paycheck was financially draining for him and he found himself struggling to afford a permanent place to live with his three children. MichiganWorks! Southeast (a strategic partner with JobSTAR) offers their Community Ventures Program to many JobSTAR workers. This program was accessed to help Dave to obtain funding for stable housing. Because of this assistance, he was able to move into his new home before Christmas.

Now that Dave has reliable housing, he is better able to attend work regularly and to be successful at his job. Dave completed a self-sustainability plan with his Success Coach as well. This plan will help him in the future to deal with unexpected situations that could jeopardize his employment.
