How many artists does it take to balance the books? We have no idea–we’ve never figured it out. The Fuller Lodge Art Center is looking for a left-brained, organized person who is excellent with numbers. The incoming Bookkeeper should have experience with record keeping using Quickbooks, daily banking deposits, bill paying, payroll, collecting contracts, and issuing NTTC’s, ordering office supplies, paying teachers, interns, and artists, monthly bank reconciliation, and regular coordination with an outside accountant.

Be the voice of the Art Center! If there’s news, and there always is, spread the word. This is also an opportunity to listen to the community for ideas on exhibit themes and turn those ideas into something concrete. Work with the Art Center Director to come up with an exhibit schedule one year in advance. Create Calls-for-Art for every upcoming exhibit and get the word out via newsletters and social media. Write press releases for upcoming events and classes and design ads for local and regional publications.

Be in charge of the party! Work with artists and vendors for our two annual Arts & Crafts Fairs. Take applications and process into the database while assigning booth locations. Coordinate our annual volunteer appreciation luncheons and oversee other events such as our participation in Earth Day, ScienceFest, Studio Tour, opening receptions, etc. Your job is to bring everybody together at the same time and make sure it goes off without a hitch!

Shades of Grey Opening Reception
|
|
Join us on Friday, April 26 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm as we open our Shades of Grey exhibit! The show selections still have yet to be made but, based on the entries, this exhibit will be impressive. While the gallery may take on a monochromatic tone, the artwork will speak in color to the viewers! Come and see the display for yourselves. Bring your friends and family. Refreshments will be served and there will be live music through the evening.

The Alchemy of Earth Into Fire
|

As we open our Shades of Grey exhibit, up-and-coming artist Alma DeMange will be opening her solo show, The Alchemy of Earth Into Fire, in the Portal Gallery. Experience the blend of music and mood through synesthetically painted watercolors. "Mood dictates each piece with music driving that mood until completion. The pieces, as a result, create themselves." Meet Alma on Friday, April 26 between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm to see her paintings and talk to the artist about how she uses music to convert her feelings into something external.

Don't miss out on the festivities at PEEC on Saturday, April 27! From 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, the Los Alamos Nature Center will celebrate Earth Day and local businesses and organizations were invited to participate. The Fuller Lodge Art Center will be there with a table full of fun arts & crafts for the kiddos. Swing by and take part in this fun Los Alamos tradition!

Sculpting 101
Instructor: Rebecca Redondo
Come with an idea for a table-top, 3D piece you’d like to create and work with to realize your ideas. Work with a variety of sculptural media and tools to create either a finished piece or a maquette ready for a more complex process with specialty tools.

Micron Drawn Doodle Styles

Join a community of doodlers in exploring automatic drawing, surrealism, cartooning, representational drawing, drawing from book resources, art history images, and drawing from photographs. Participants can bring t-shirts, canvas shoes, parasols, white scarves, or cardstock. Adults only.

Everyone’s a Critic
Instructors: Ken Nebel & Catherine Ozment In this class that’s a GOOD thing- at least when critiquing is done with purpose and empathy! This 1-day workshop is designed for the Visual Arts and Written Word. Work with a team of instructors to learn what it takes to critique well with the goal of starting free groups designed to meet regularly to bolster each other up creatively.

Cyanotype
Instructor: Michael Redondo
In this class, students will learn to mix and apply a sensitizing solution to watercolor paper to create a photosensitive paper that will be used to make blue monochrome photographic prints. The class will also experiment with creating photograms by placing objects, such as leaves and lace directly on a sensitized paper.

Papier Mache Bark Casting
Instructor: Brian Arthur
Learn the process of creating rubber molds from imprints of tree bark and using them to make recycled papier mache castings. Once dry, students will learn to mix teas and coffees to create the stain for their castings.

Level Up! Portfolio Workshop 1: Observation Station

Take on one of the several common stumbling blocks identified in forming a complete and riveting portfolio: how to create using direct observation. This block of time will be spent on realistic self-portraits from mirrors and on examining and recording in detail an object that means something to the artist.

Topiary Garden
Instructor: Mary Cardin This is a really different colorful floral painting. Create your one of a kind painting with all impressionist techniques. Splatter many colors of paint, spritz with water to create flowers, then see what develops! Add little details to pull it all together. You will love learning these garden flower techniques.

Where Do the Lines Come From?
Instructor: Kathi Parker
This workshop is oriented towards drawing the figure from observation, with an emphasis on composition, proportion, and anatomy of the human body. Classes may use both nude and costumed models. The last night of the class will focus on drawing the face. This is an introductory class but some drawing experience is helpful.

The Fuller Lodge Art Center is currently looking for artists for the next exhibit, Mapmaker as well as the Summer Arts & Crafts Fair.

Maps reveal a trace of their creators and orient the viewer. Create artwork that tailors maps to offer direction and makes sense of many kinds of landscapes. Use cues in your artwork to create goals, to say something new without reinventing the wheel, to spark wanderlust, to trace a path, or to encourage us to step off a path and explore on our own.

Be a part of our Summer Fair! Fine arts and crafts are selected to be a part of this show which is held in conjunction with the Los Alamos County Fair and Rodeo. Family activities and food vendors are set up across the street at Ashley Pond while the lawn of the historic Fuller Lodge is filled with Arts & Crafts Fair vendors! The Rodeo Parade walks right in front of our venue, opening up the flood gates to shoppers and visitors alike!
