Director's Corner

Greetings Jobs of Hope Family,

I trust you all had a great Independence Day. In cities all over Northern Colorado, there were parades, backyard BBQs, and fireworks. Lots of fireworks! Even 2 days later!

By the time you read this edition of the newsletter (mid-July as I write), we will have celebrated the ribbon-cutting and re-dedication of our men’s home on July 11th. The facility will now be called The Rick Hartman House of Hope. In partnership with The Greeley Chamber of Commerce and Big Deal Company, we brought together Mr. Hartman’s family members, Jobs of Hope supporters, and civic and non-profit leaders from across Weld County to witness this ceremony. Mr. Hartman was a long-time supporter and board member of Jobs of Hope. We felt it was fitting to honor his legacy with this re-dedication ceremony. We had the ribbon-cutting, photos, refreshments, and a great time of fellowship as people gathered in and outside the home.

A special thank you to Mike Sanchez and Billy Morones from the Jobs of Hope team and our clients, who spent a great deal of time getting the facility ready for the event.

Also a big thank you to Big Deal Company’s Christine Forester and Lesli Tanski for running this event. The decorations, signage, and refreshments were top-notch!

Lastly, we are grateful for the work of the Greeley Chamber of Commerce, Kelly Ziellman, and the Chamber Ambassadors. Look for a full photo spread in the August issue.

I hope you are all enjoying your summer. The Jobs of Hope team appreciates all your prayers and financial support. We are in the thick of planning for this fall’s events, as well as recruiting additional board members. If you wish to know more, drop me a

line!

Please enjoy this warm weather and we pray for God’s deepest blessing for all of you.

Thanks!

The Hard Work of Our Amazing Staff - Andrea

As we find ourselves in the heat of summer, Jobs of Hope continues to serve the community. Our work is not easy, but we are able to do it thanks to the hard work of our amazing staff. Ephesians 4:16 states “From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” This quote perfectly describes the importance of our staff members and volunteers. This month we recognize Andrea Amaya, the Jobs of Hope intake specialist. She is the first person our participants encounter, and we couldn’t do our work without her.

Creating Goodness, Integrity, and Self-Confidence

In the spirit of “April, showers bring May flowers,” I am reminded of the adversity that our men have faced in their lives as they rebuild their lives to become whole, stable, and productive citizens. Our men have had negative encounters with people, places, and things beyond their control, some of which have had lasting effects. When someone is not taught how to manage adversity, they are left to cope on their own. Their choices came from a place of brokenness instead of responding in a way that encourages growth and positive outcomes. Temporary feelings cloud our judgment and control our thinking.

Chairman's Update

We are made to desire freedom. God has placed something deep inside of us to seek the freedom to choose what we do all day or to say what we want.  Freedom to choose what we believe is best or where to live. So many have fought and died to assure that you and I can still enjoy some of the freedoms that this great country still provides and it’s our responsibility to remember that.

This month is kicked off by the 4th of July, a holiday that has changed over time as the original intent has morphed into today’s barbeque and time with friends in the backyard as well as fireworks and concerts. All good things and I love a solid barbeque. However, not many reflect on the fact that the date, July 4, 1776, signified the agreement of the final wording of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress. The final version was signed in August of that year. Not much is written about any celebrations in the early years following the signing of the Declaration.

In 1817, after his presidency, former President John Adams wrote about the fact that Americans were forgetting about and seemed uninterested in their history. He died on July 4th, 1826. By 1870, Congress established July 4th as a national holiday…Independence Day.

When talking to others about this July holiday, not many refer to Independence Day these days. I fear that, as a nation, we have strayed from the intent and understanding of what a significant thing it is to have these freedoms…and what it took to receive them. So, I’d like to challenge you this “Freedom Season” to pull out a copy of the Constitution. Find one online or get a fresh one from the Sherriff’s Department and read it. Do that for a refresher or maybe for the first time if you’ve never read it. Encourage others to read it this month and see how the hand of God orchestrated the framework for our great nation.

Remember with me this July that the freedoms we enjoy are all ultimately granted by our Creator. True freedom is only found in Christ, and he wants to extend it to all who will call him Lord and Savior.

“I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments.”
