Chairman's Update
I love mornings in the spring. Everything points to a fresh start. Springtime comes with tasks like preparing for irrigation, weed management, and cleaning the debris from winter.
One spring job involves burning old material and weeds as a yearly maintenance activity. Getting rid of the junk and weeds seems beneficial at face value, but it goes much further than that. Once lit, the fire slowly makes its way across the grass, burning the old growth to the ground. Removing the old growth from the previous season also exposes the soil to the sun. This warms the soil and stimulates the root system to begin the growth cycle above ground. The ash left behind breaks down and is absorbed into the soil giving beneficial minerals back to the roots helping to promote growth. Everything about this is for the benefit of the hayfield. The new growth is stronger, and this process helps us stay ahead of the battle with the weeds during the growing season.
This is a great reminder of the seasons in our lives. Sometimes our lives become packed with junk like unresolved conflict, unforgiveness, overcommitment, addictions, anger, or a variety of other issues. This metaphorical weed patch germinates and grows slowly over time so often we don’t even see it until the problem becomes critical.
