Joey Leonard Acquires The H.S. Group
Will lead the organization into its next 50 years
We are pleased to announce that Joey Leonard, a human resources executive with more than 20 years of experience has recently acquired The H.S. Group, a provider of talent management services founded by Jock Seal 50 years ago. Seal will remain with the firm as a consultant.

"The H.S. Group is an outstanding business with a strong staff of experts in the human  resources field," stated  Leonard.  "I am excited to grow the legacy, as the company moves into its next 50 years."

Leonard was previously the Executive Vice President of Human Resources for Waupaca Foundry , which has more than 4,000 employees in multiple locations. Prior to that role, he held various HR management roles within the company. He has a bachelor's degree from U.W. Oshkosh . Leonard is also active in his profession and the community, serving as:
"Joey is the right person to lead the business going forward," said Seal. "He has the right combination of leadership experience, industry expertise and an outstanding network to help the company continue to grow."

While based in Wisconsin, The H.S. Group operates internationally. "As a member of Career Partners International (CPI), we can provide local expertise but with a global reach to companies large and small," explained Leonard.

CPI is a talent management organization serving more than 300 locations in over 45 countries worldwide. "By leveraging the expertise of the network, it provides our clients a reach not found with other local firms," stated Leonard. "I am looking forward to the future of The H.S. Group, its team of experts and our clients."
Harassment in the Workplace Training
It's more than just "checking the box"
Our recent Harassment in the Workplace Survey asked if management and employees could accurately identify harassment behaviors. Only 52% of participants indicated that management could accurately identify most behaviors, and only 43% indicated that employees as a whole could identify most behaviors. Yet, only 58% of participants indicated that their company requires harassment training.
Experts from the legal community will tell you that education is still your best defense in protecting your employees and your company from harassment and harassment claims. In today's business world of heightened awareness and sensitivity regarding harassment, does your harassment training actually educate your employees and protect your bottom-line, or does it simply "check the box" that it has been completed?

Many companies that do have the training utilize some iteration of an online course. Those courses are described as efficient, quick, simple, convenient, and cost-effective for delivery to large groups. Companies have spent billions of dollars on harassment training, yet according to the EEOC, the number of claims is not decreasing. Apparently this has not been money well spent.

The biggest gap in many harassment training programs is that they communicate legal-ese in the form of definitions and policies, but they don't teach behaviors, and they don't teach the skills to help your employees proactively manage potential harassment situations before it becomes a legal and financial problem.

The H.S. Group's highly interactive Harassment in the Workplace training incorporates candid conversation about real-life situations to help employees understand what is and isn't harassment and how to be proactive and address situations in a timely manner to prevent a scenario from becoming a harassment issue. Our training is customized to your policies, and we partner with HR to incorporate content that your employees can best relate to. If you are evaluating your current training or considering adding a training program, we would love to talk with you about how we can help you protect your bottom-line.

What do you like about living/working in Northeast Wisconsin?
The first two things that come to mind are the spring and fall seasons, especially fall. Additionally I appreciate the lifestyle conveniences of living here. I have traveled quite a bit, and while I love  visiting other
places, it's great to get back to Northeast Wisconsin where I can pretty much get to wherever I need to be in less than 30 minutes. I am not a fan of the traffic you find in large metro areas. On the other hand, our proximity to Milwaukee, Chicago and the Twin Cities affords us the opportunity to take advantage of cultural opportunities presented by a large market without it being an extreme burden to get there.

If you could visit anywhere, where would you go?
The International Space Station - I would love to view the universe from a different perspective.

If you could learn anything new without cost, time, or resources holding you back, what would it be?
Do I have to pick just one? I would love to learn the art of creating stained glass objects. Or, at the other end of the spectrum, I started college as a computer science major, and there is still a part of me that is totally intrigued by technology and would love to be a technology wizard, maybe finding and fighting cyber-crime.
