When you do good work, you don’t end up in the headlines.
- Spirit Airlines is no more. Their model of super cheap fares and charging for things as ridiculous as a printed boarding pass and water might sound good, but it didn’t survive.
- The WSJ reported about (major) home builders facing a lot of lawsuits over shoddy work including unstable foundation, mold issues in the walls, poor ventilation, and more.
- And look no further than government. In Seattle the homeless authority is rife with fraud ($45 million worth), Sound Transit is $35 billion over budget, and the city of Seattle has a three-year deficit of ~$500 million.
When buying a business or helping sell one, you want companies the opposite of the above. You want solid financial statements not needing explanation (of why and how things are better than shown), loyal customers, solid profits, and more.
They’re hard to find, which is why the advertising sites are filled with junk. Have a good business model, take care of your customers, charge a fair price, and show profit, meaning pay taxes. It’s worth it in the long run.
