Fostering Promise welcomes John Baumgarten, Silicon Valley technology leader, to advance the organization's Tech for Good strategy

Fostering Promise is proud to announce that John Baumgarten has joined the organization as its first Chief Technology Officer (CTO), bringing decades of Silicon Valley technology leadership to the organization’s bold vision: ensuring that Not Even One™ young person ages out of foster care into homelessness.

A seasoned software engineer and technology leader, John spent nearly 20 years at Apple, where he served as a Development Manager leading teams responsible for first releases of some of the company’s best-known products and services, including iCloud, Apple Pay, MobileMe and iDisk.

More recently, John has been at the forefront of AI-accelerated software engineering and AI training, using emerging technologies and AI agents to help startups develop innovative solutions—with a particular passion for organizations serving under-resourced communities.

“Technology has extraordinary potential to remove barriers, connect people to resources and give individuals greater control over their futures,” said John. “That’s what excites me about Fostering Promise. I’m thrilled to bring my experience to a mission where technology can make a very tangible difference in the lives of young people transitioning out of foster care.”

As CTO, John will oversee the technology strategy and development of My Housing Platform™, Fostering Promise’s pioneering mobile and desktop solution designed to help young people exiting foster care successfully navigate the transition to stable housing and adulthood.

Guided by young adults with lived experience in foster care, My Housing Platform™ will bring housing opportunities, critical documents, housing-readiness tools, resources, caring adults, mentors and personalized guidance together in one centralized virtual space. The AI-powered platform is being designed to strengthen and improve a fragmented transition process by putting greater information, autonomy and support directly into the hands of young people.

“John brings an extraordinary combination of technical expertise, innovation and heart to Fostering Promise,” said André Chapman, CEO of Fostering Promise. “Silicon Valley is home to some of the world’s most innovative thinking and technology, and we believe that same innovation can help prevent young people from aging-out of foster care into homelessness. John brings the technical expertise, innovation, and heart to help us bring that vision to life.”

John’s appointment marks an important milestone in Fostering Promise’s growing Tech for Good strategy and its work to transform the systems that too often allow young people to leave foster care without a clear path to housing.
