No doubt you’ve read the statistics about the geometric rise in anxiety levels among adults, teenagers, and children. How do we as Christians make sense of this? After all, Jesus very clearly says, “Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” Matthew 6:34
Sissy Goff, director of child and adolescent counseling at Daystar Counseling Ministries in Nashville, brings over 30 years of experience to address the issue of anxiety among parents from a Christian perspective. The Worry Free Parent: Living in Confidence So Your Kids Can Too received Christianity Today’s Award of Merit in their 2024 book issue. A reviewer Goodreads writes, “Sissy Goff is just the best. She’s able to speak truth (backed with behavioral science and statistics) and provide real concrete tools while covering all of it with so much grace and empathy and zero guilt. She is a such a gift to Christian parents! Highly recommend this book for anxious parents, especially ones who struggle with perfectionism.”
John Knox Children and Youth ministries would like to invite parents to join a 5-session book discussion of The Worry Free Parent. Betsy Turnbull will lead the series, which will kick off on Sunday, February 25 after the 10 a.m. worship service (while your children enjoy music with Luke and games afterward led by Susan Felton); we’ll discuss Section I of the book at this first session. The book can be found on Amazon. Stay tuned for additional dates.
Parents, please think about devoting a small block of time to this discussion group. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear about, talk about, and live into some good tips for parenting from a Christian perspective in this over-scheduled, fast-paced, no-rest-for-the-weary life!
