Bidding Farewell to Charles Tompkins

This Sunday’s worship service concludes Charles Tompkins’ ministry as Organist at John Knox. Charles will be returning to First Baptist Church of Greenville, a congregation he served previously for almost twenty years.

We are grateful for the rich gifts and faithful service that Charles has brought into our worship in his season on our music staff, as well as for the longer legacy of Charles’ association with our church’s music ministry. He was the consultant for John Knox's Holtkamp organ, Opus 2078, and he played the September, 2000 dedication service and dedicatory recital for the new instrument.

With thanks for all we have shared, we pray for God’s blessing on Charles and his next season of ministry.

Our Christian Mission and Outreach Committee has agreed to participate in the Lutheran Immigration and Relief Services Circle of Welcome program to aid a refugee family. We will have specific responsibilities in helping the family settle in Greenville all coordinated by Lutheran Services. We will need a team of 12 core volunteers to be trained and vetted to assist the family during our six month commitment. There will also be opportunities for other individuals and groups to provide food and necessities. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to serve. Contact Bitsy Cazel or Bill Fuller if you have questions or would like to sign up for the team.

Vacation Bible School 2023 – The Knights of North Castle

Sunday, June 25 – Wednesday, June 28

“Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his power”

~ Ephesians 6:10 ~

Every summer, we gather with our John Knox children to experience a fun-filled week of Vacation Bible School, during which the children are immersed in stories of God’s love. Our theme for VBS this year is “Knights of North Castle: Quest for the King’s Armor”, during which the children will be on a quest to learn how we can put on the protective armor of God. We will hear Bible stories about truth, justice, peace, faith, and salvation.

Registration for VBS 2023 has begun! Use the link below to get your children signed up. The deadline for registration is May 26. VBS is for children who have completed K4 – 5th grade. A special K3 class and a nursery will be provided for any parents who are volunteering.

We will kick off our VBS week on Sunday afternoon, June 25 (4:00 – 6:30) with VBS activities for the kids, followed by a family dinner. We will continue our VBS activities for the kids Monday, June 26 through Wednesday, June 28 (5:00 – 7:30 each day) We will serve dinner to the children each weeknight of VBS.

Please plan to join us!

Vacation Bible School Volunteers Still Needed!

We need lots volunteers to help lead our children and their activities, so if you feel called to serve, please let Susan Felton know! ([email protected] or call the church at 244-0453) We’ll find the perfect job for you! We are thrilled to have those of you who are already signed up, and we’re looking forward to sharing this great week with everyone!

The Fellowship Hall Class invites the adult Sunday school classes to join us for the summer months beginning in June. This has been our practice for several years. We are doing an Inductive Bible Study on Second Corinthians.

We also extend this invitation to any adults not currently attending Sunday School.

In this season of concern, the Church’s witness of service and caring is more important than ever. John Knox is doing all we can to continue our ministry in ways that keep us connected to God and to each other. Please continue your offerings so that we can serve fully throughout this time of need.
