Meet John Lujan

John Lujan is a husband, father, retired firefighter, small businesses man, coach, Sunday school teacher and community volunteer.

John Lujan has been a firefighter and a coach.

Since retiring from the San Antonio Fire Department in 2012, John has continued to serve as a leader at Yash & Lujan (Y&L) Consulting and has helped to grow the small IT business to over 400 employees. In addition, John has also founded Sistema Technologies, another IT technology company.

As a successful businessman, John is often asked to speak to students at local schools about the opportunities available in the technology field of work. John is quick to share his passion and desire to see these students enhance their computer skills. He is able to speak with credibility on this subject as he has placed a great number of young people in high paying technology jobs, with continued career advancement possibilities.

After winning a special election in January of this year by just 171 votes, John Lujan is the only Republican to ever hold the south Bexar county district seat.

John Lujan became the first Republican to ever win the South Side District 118 seat in a special election
to replace Joe Farias who retired. He won in the heavily Democratic district with just 171 votes.

And now he's hoping to serve a full term as state rep. for House District 118.  We need to make sure he wins again!

John has a heart for the community and for serving others. These values were instilled in him since he was young. His parents served as fine examples of commitment to faith, family and service to the community.

His mother served many years as an educator in the public school system before retiring as principal of Gallardo Elementary School in the Southside School District.

His father is a retired minister, who recently came out of retirement to assist with the Hispanic ministry at Southside Baptist Church, and has assumed his role of interim Pastor.

John and Freda, his wife of 31 years, have passed these same values to their two biological and three adopted sons. They are members of the Southside Baptist Church at South Loop 1604.

John Lujan's Top 3 Priorities

"We've been neglected a little bit on the Southside and a lot of that has to do with politics. We play partisan politics. I say forget Democrat, forget Republican go for the person that will work and be effective in government. That's what we should be looking for," Lujan told Spectrum News.

He said bringing leaders from both parties together hasn't been easy. But says cooperation is key to getting things done.

"I face that even now. Joe Farias was our sitting representative for so long. He had some legislation that I'm going to carry and I was told, well that's a Democrat thing. I don't care. It's a district 118 thing," said Lujan.

Since John Lujan became your elected state representative in February of this year, he has been working on solving a 3 major issues in District 118.

1.  State Representative John Lujan has been working to get rid of a major tire dump site that is very dangerous to our health due to the West Nile and Zika viruses.

Ever since State Rep. John Lujan was elected in a special election last February, he's been fighting to clean up 2 million tires on a 29-acre property he believes is a fire hazard and a mosquito breeding ground.

John Lujan is demanding answers in the above Spectrum TV news story about the South Side tire dump in light of 15 Zika virus cases which are spread my mosquitoes which multiply in the standing water in the 2.5 million tires.

John Lujan has focused like a laser beam on calling attention to the South Side Tire Dump.

2.5 million tires have been abandoned on a 29-acre property in South San Antonio
by the ironically named Safe Tire Disposal Corp.  Because clean up efforts were stalled,
John Lujan has been using his influence to address this fire and mosquito health hazard.

2.
John Lujan is concerned that District 118 has three under-performing independent school districts.

As the son of a retired public school principal, he is committed to improving the quality of our education system.  In order to break the cycle of poverty, we must have an educated workforce to attract high paying jobs to the district.

John Lujan is concerned that there are three under-performing independent school districts
on the South Side of San Antonio.

3. John Lujan is upset that District 118 literally has no roads for some of our residents.  "We have a little colonia in our district that doesn't have paved roads," said Lujan. "Emergency units such as fire, ambulances, and police have no way of reaching people if they need help. This is unacceptable!"

The Republican Club of Bexar County dreamt up this "No Mas Uresti" sign as a message
to let people know that they have a choice other than the Uresti Brothers of the Democratic Party.
No to Tomas Uresti who is running against John Lujan for State Rep 118.
No to Carlos Uresti who is running again Pete Flores for State Senate District 19
And no to Albert Uresti running against Michael Berlanga for Tax Assessor

John Lujan and Pete Flores are two conservative Hispanic Republicans who are challenging the Uresti Democrat Dynasty

John Lujan dazzled the Texas Leadership Institute for Public Advocacy
by publicly and unashamedly expressing his gratitude to God

"Mr. Lujan was the only candidate at the forum who expressed his gratitude to an Almighty God for guiding him in his daily thoughts and actions. He took the time to mention that he is the son of a minister and he is an active member of a Baptist church in the district.

John Lujan's Sunday School lesson for the youth group was titled "Redeemed From Poor Choices." He wrote, "Today, young people find it difficult to wait; our society wants it and wants it now.  Waiting on God's promises assures us success -- keeping ourselves clean and healthy in mind, body, and spirit. The Scriptures we read were Genesis 15:1-6, 16:1-5, and 17:18-19.  God's plans are always better than our own.  I am proud to teach these attentive and respectful students on Sunday mornings. I am so thankful to be part of their lives."

"This district needs a good salesman and an experienced entrepreneur to improve the district's economic and educational future. What is needed as in many other public offices are men and women like Mr. Lujan who have the diversity of experience and core values to represent the citizens and residents of the district - educational, business know-how, knowledge of the legal environment of business and government, statesmanship, ability to solve problems, adherence to core Christian moral ethics, and ability to bring people together.

"We believe Mr. Lujan will be able to draw public support from a broad political spectrum, Republican and Democrat alike. He embodies the best of America, one who has lived the American dream.

"Mr. Tomas Uresti is a member of a political family. He has two close relatives who have prominent positions in public office representing the state and county. Mr. Uresti has been a trustee for a school board for a dozen years, but did not offer a record of accomplishments in his position or any examples of his achievements in his professional capacity as legal assistant and construction business owner as evidence that he is qualified to fill the office of state representative for a district experiencing many severe challenges."
