Aloha everyone,
Sadly, our fierce friend is no longer with us. After many months of an increasingly debilitating and painful illness John Martin, Human Design warrior and guide, ended his life here on Earth on June 13, 2023. He did so voluntarily, opting to make the choice himself - with State sanctioned approval - when the pain became too much.
As disease took over his body, he was no longer able to practice his art and work with students, which saddened him deeply. It was no longer a life, nor one worth living.
John’s unique perspective and commitment to freeing people from the tyranny of their own minds via Human Design was unwavering.
He dealt with many demons - as many of us do - but his commitment to listening to his body never wavered, not even in illness. When he was presented with medical options to “save his life” - like surgery and chemotherapy - his body said ‘fuck NO’ and he heeded it.
John’s legacy and contribution to Human Design will live on long after the physical death of his body. He might have had a little more to express - he always had something to say! - but life had other plans.
As John would be the first to tell you, it’s “the life” not “my life.”
He would have preferred that life take him out in one-fell swoop, but it’s not what happened. He had to look his own death in the face. And he did. Devon Wright was with him every day the last couple of months, and shepherded him into his transition out of the body.
John was able to record his experience of what happened to him, and his experience of the same as a Passenger and witness, just 2 days before his passing. As you listen, remember that this was his body and its choices. His way is not “the way,” just his way. Even in death, we each remain our own authority.
What About Human Design Hawaii?
As with all events like this, it’s a mutation. The head of the enterprise has fallen. Time will tell but for now, Devon, Raven, Theresa and a newer team member, Sami Brown, plan to continue. We’re not rushing forward but taking a good long breath as we consider where our respective energies want to go regarding our offers.

For me, John Martin was just a kid at heart. He loved nothing more than surfing and found such joy in the water. He found a home on the Big Island, where he continued his epic search to end the needless mind-chatter that kept one from getting the simple truth that we are just objects flying through space.
He was happy to share that search with those who recognized him and had the courage to step into his magnificent dojo to have their Not-Self mind pulverized. I count myself as one of many that had the privilege to meet him in this life. I miss him and at the same time have enormous gratitude for having been his friend and colleague for many years.
I connected with John in Sedona. It was an interesting meeting, as I had an image from listening to his YouTube presentations that he was a crazy man. That turned out to be true, but for me it was a delicious sort of craziness that empowered a never-ending conversation between us. Many of those conversations were captured on video and audio. When I met him in person, I was struck by his deep direct dive into life with no nonsense. His discipline for living as Self was monumental. In fact, he tried to never leave the dojo always combating the breadth and depth of Not-Self madness. As a 6/2 who came off the roof, he was a Role Model who taught all of us more about what that really meant. As Ra had said, only the 6’s were going to be able to tell us the truth of the 6th line during this time of transformation.
We became fast friends in Sedona and met at various coffee shops and diners creating an ongoing dialog that continued when he moved to Hawaii, and I went back to Colorado. We laughed and inspired each other while sharing a mutual deep Outer Authority without borders. There are no words that substitute for the fabulous and unique frequency of John Martin. As I learned in Arica many years ago, the salute at the end to our departing friends is, “Best possible evolution!”
For me, this quote from Robert Irwin best describes John:

For those who were lucky enough to have a session with this crazy monk, he would give cutting, hard-hitting truth that was delivered with an intensity and focus that was uniquely himself. He had the powerful ability to cut through the story of the mind, shine a bright light on your unique life force, and bring you back into the vehicle in the present moment.
I can remember when I first saw John's videos on the projector aura, the truth of his frequency and words hit me like a ton of bricks forever mutating me and my process in this life. John helped shatter my illusion that I was actually "doing" anything, and helped me learn to trust my design AND that it is all just happening. No choice, just presence.
He was a warrior who fought every day to untether people from the shackles of their minds, freeing the vehicle to live "the life" and the passenger to relax into its role as the observer.
I had the honor of not only working with John and becoming close friends over the years but also being with him as he met his death. John displayed an incredible level of integrity and awareness in one of the most difficult processes that we can go through as humans. He met his death beautifully, sword in hand, and his body was given its time for Bardo.
It is all just happening and it is easy to see that the way he met his death was the perfect completion of his incredible mythology in this life.
John was and will continue to be a role model and an example of what it is to embody consciousness in form.

I met John 10 years ago when we both landed in Sedona, Arizona, about 3 weeks apart from each other. I’m pretty sure ‘life’ had a hand in that. I thought I was there for another HD teacher, but soon after I met John I said to him, "I think I'm here for you." (Integration recognizing integration, and my own spirit craving liberation?)
We are as different as you can imagine, except for the 6/2 thing, but somehow we came together in this work; I was able to “get him” and help get his words out via video, web shows and whatnot. The creativity that emerged from our collaboration was like no other I've experienced.
I have no doubt that I was there to serve John, and in kind, my life as I knew it was blown apart! Haha.
The best was the laughter that arose spontaneously between us when we were yucking about the world, or just working on something. There is no other person I can do that with in quite the same way.
Bon voyage my friend and co-conspirator. I enjoyed our Earth bound time together. What a ride!
