NEW: Vaccine distribution for next week in Johnson County
This week, Johnson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) expanded hours for COVID-19 vaccinations.

In the upcoming week, JCDHE will continue vaccinating all those in Phases 1-5 at the Lenexa vaccination site. Appointments will be 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday (April 13-15), and 9 a.m. – noon, on Saturday (April 17).

JCDHE data show that 37% of the eligible population (ages 16 and older) in Johnson County has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. 21% of the eligible Johnson County population is fully immunized. Next week, JCDHE expects to receive 18,840 first doses of the vaccine.

As of April 9, Johnson County has:
44,575 positive cases of COVID-19 (increase of 52 since yesterday)
3.0% percent positive, 14-day average
78 incidence rate, number of new cases/100K persons, over prior 14 days, (increase of 3 since yesterday)
642 deaths (no additional deaths since yesterday)
242,124 individuals tested negative (increase of 369 since yesterday)
43,001 presumed recovered (increase of 29 since yesterday)
Positive cases represent those reported to the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment by physicians, private laboratories, hospitals and the Kansas Department of Health and Environmental Laboratories. Presumed Recovered are surviving individuals not hospitalized and more than 30 days since symptom onset. These numbers are not representative of the total number of individuals with COVID-19 in Johnson County. All data is provisional and subject to change.

NEW: Olathe Motor Vehicle Office reopens to the public, following COVID-19-related temporary closure
Johnson County’s Olathe Motor Vehicle Office, located at 782 N. Ridgeview Road, Olathe, will reopen to the public beginning Monday, April 12, in a limited capacity. The office will resume regular business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The office was closed this week due to staffing shortages after multiple staff members were impacted by COVID-19. No customers are believed to have been directly exposed. Deep cleaning and disinfection have been done in an abundance of caution.

NEW: $16 billion in federal grants for Kansas venues affected by COVID-19
Today, April 9, Governor Kelly announced that $16 billion in grants will go to shuttered venues through the Shuttered Venue Operators Grants (SVOG) program by the Small Business Administration (SBA).


NEW: KDHE weekly vaccine update
On Thursday, April 8, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment released its weekly vaccine distribution update.

Highlights from the update include:

  • Next week, the state expects to receive the following:
  • 39,780 Pfizer (first doses); 47,970 Pfizer (second doses)
  • 29,000 Moderna (first doses); 27,800 Moderna (second doses)
  • 5,000 Janssen (Johnson & Johnson)
  • Kansas has reached more than 1 million doses administered! Through the KSWebIZ system, Kansas is reporting 1,435,128 doses have been administered as of 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, which includes both first and second doses.

UPDATE: Data from the state
VACCINE
Kansas WebIZ is reporting 1,505,586 doses have been administered in Kansas, as of 11:55 a.m., on April 9. This includes first and second doses. 968,016 Kansans have received their first dose. This represents 33.2% of the state's population.


COVID
On Friday, April 9, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment provided the following data:

  • 304,236 positives
  • 4,938 deaths
  • 1,030,833 negatives

JOHNSON COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER
On March 25, the Board of County Commissioners approved a new Public Health Order proposed by Local Health Officer Joseph LeMaster, M.D., and Johnson County Health and Environment Director Dr. Sanmi Areola. It includes requirements for physical distancing in public spaces and the wearing of face masks. The order is effective from 12:01 a.m., on Friday, March 26, through 11:59 p.m., on April 30, 2021.

COVID-19 in the Workplace: A guide for employers includes steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at work, concentrating on the rules of infection control and what to do when a case of COVID-19 occurs in the workplace.
