Hi Neighbor,
The San José Police Department recently upgraded their camera registration system (CAM) to a newer program called Connect San Jose. This program is designed to elevate the City's emergency preparedness by allowing our police and fire department to better assess situations and rapidly respond to calls for service.
Residents and business owners are able to register the cameras on their property to notify officers that a camera is present in the area and they're able to easily request video evidence should an incident occur. Registering your cameras does not give the San José Police Department access to your live feed!
But, if you'd like to integrate your camera feed to SJPD's Real Time Intelligence Center, you can give the police department direct access to camera live feeds in case of an emergency near you. Additionally, businesses who integrate their camera feed may be eligible for a $450 reimbursement after purchasing a CORE connection device online.
If you have any questions regarding the Connect San José program, reach out to my team at district8@sanjoseca.gov!
Update: Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of the San José Police Department, I am grateful to report that the suspects involved in the recent violent assault and robbery of Kim Hung Jewelry have been arrested. This incident has been deeply concerning, and my heart goes out to everyone that has been impacted by this brazen violence. While there is still more work on this case, the rapid response by our investigators demonstrates our strong commitment to public safety in San José.
It is my pleasure and privilege to serve as your City Councilmember,

September is District 8's Invocation month!
The invocation is a tradition and integral component of city council meetings, aimed at setting a positive and reflective tone before the commencement of official business.

Ever since opening their brick-and-mortar in late 2024, they have been serving warm and crispy eggrolls, boba drinks, and banh khot (Vietnamese mini pancakes with shrimp)
Fun Fact: we served their shrimp eggrolls during my Swearing-in Community Celebration back in February!

This week, the San José City Council adopted the City Council's Focus Areas for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. The Focus Areas are about making sure we address what matters most to residents. The five focus areas are:
- Increasing Community Safety;
- Reducing Unsheltered Homelessness;
- Cleaning Up Our Neighborhoods
- Growing Our Economy; and
- Building More Housing.
You can read more about the Focus Areas in the 2025 Semi-Annual Status Report.
The San José City Council also voted unanimously to approve an ordinance prohibiting law enforcement officers from concealing their identities in the City of San José. This ordinance will require officers to show visible forms of identification, such as their badge and identification numbers, and prohibit personal disguises while interacting with the public during their line of duty. Moving forward, the San José Police Department will establish an expedited response protocol focused on investigating reports of impersonation. Through these efforts, we can rebuild our trust in the community and enhance safety. (Talk about the public safety aspect of this, touch upon why we enacted this ordinance in the first place. Emphasize that it will help create a safer community by building trust between our residents and law enforcement.)
The City of San José and the San José Police Officers' Association finalized their collective bargaining agreement, effective this year through September 30, 2028. All officers will receive an overall 15% pay increase, granted gradually over the course of the agreement.
The first raise would be a 7% increase effective for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. The following pay raise will be a 5% increase for the 2026-2027 fiscal period and a final 3% increase for the 2027-2028 fiscal year.
Executing the pay increases of this agreement will contribute to the SJPD's competitive benefits; working as a recruitment and retainment tool to expand and strengthen our workforce.
