Join us for a Parent University session this week
Barrington 220 is excited to partner with BStrong Together and Barrington Youth & Family Services for an upcoming virtual Parent University session titled "Cultivating Resilience During COVID-19". The session will take place on Thursday, March 4 at 7pm. Dr. Doug Bolton will guide parents through these challenging times by highlighting strategies that will build resilience in our children, so they can effectively manage stress now and in the future. Dr. Bolton has used his degrees in clinical psychology, school psychology, and educational leadership to support students with social, emotional and behavioral challenges in schools since 1987. He worked in therapeutic schools for 10 years as a school psychologist, before spending the next 14 years as principal of North Shore Academy, a K-12 public therapeutic school.
Countryside teacher named Golden Apple finalist
Congratulations to Anne McNamara who has been named a finalist for the prestigious Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching! Mrs. McNamara has worked at Countryside Elementary as a special education teacher since 2002. She is one of just 32 Pre-K-3rd grade teachers in Illinois who was selected as a finalist for the award, which is just 4.5% percent of a record-setting 708 nominations received from 67 counties. Incoming Superintendent of Schools visits D220
Barrington 220 welcomed Dr. Robert Hunt, incoming Superintendent of Schools, earlier this week as he visited all Barrington 220 schools. The visit was a chance for Dr. Hunt to meet our principals in person and tour all school buildings. Dr. Hunt will officially begin his duties on July 1. Click here to read more about his background. On March 17, 2021 it will be one year since the Barrington 220 community approved a $147 million bond measure that will fund major facility upgrades at all of our school buildings. Barrington 220 has launched the Build 220 webpage, which will continuously be updated to keep all stakeholders informed every step along the way. Progress is currently underway at BMS-Prairie, BMS-Station and Grove Avenue Elementary, which are being prioritized in order to eliminate the mobile classrooms at those schools. Preliminary design plans for Barrington High School will be shared at the March 2 Board of Education meeting. Project work across all D220 schools is expected to last through 2024.
Latest "One Minute Spotlight" features Rose classroom
Learning NOW in Barrington 220 is a video series created by the Department of Technology & Innovation, which highlights learning in Barrington 220 from the student perspective. The Learning Now "One Minute Spotlight" focuses on how technology is used to support different lessons in the classroom. Parents: Take the 5Essentials Survey
This year all students and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the seventh annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child. Click here to fill out the parent survey, which is administered by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago, on behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education.

PTO to host School Board Candidate Forum
The PTO Presidents' Council will be hosting a virtual candidate forum in order for community members to learn more about the candidates running for a seat on the Barrington 220 Board of Education. There will be four Board seats up for election on the April 6, 2021 consolidated election ballot. Board members serve a four year term.The forum will take place on Wednesday, March 3 from 9am-11am. Click here for more information.
Red ribbons on display for "My Red Said" Week
Barrington 220 is joining many local community organizations in supporting the "My Red Said" project. My Red Said is a mental health awareness initiative to let people in our community know that they are not alone and encourage those who are struggling to ask for help. Members of the community can pick up a red ribbon between now and Saturday, March 6, then hang the ribbons outside their homes and businesses by Sunday, March 7, 2021, which marks the beginning of My Red Said week. Scholarship opportunity for BHS students
The Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce awards Lauren Brown Memorial scholarships each spring to local high school students pursuing higher education through a university, community college, or vocational/trade certification program. The scholarship is named after Lauren Brown, a young woman who worked for the Chamber for several years and lost her battle with cancer at the age of 29. Scholarships range from $500 to $1,500. All applications are due on Tuesday, March 25. Click here to apply today!
BJWC accepting nominations for Character Counts award
The Barrington Junior Women's Club is now accepting applications for the 2021 Character Counts award. The goal of Character Counts is to promote core ethical values through “Six Pillars of Character” – Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. Nominees can range from students, coaches, teachers, employees of local businesses, community volunteers and neighbors, etc. Click here to nominate someone by March 13.

The Barrington Giving Day Youth Board invites community members to an upcoming fundraiser at Chipotle. Bring this flyer to the Chipotle at 20505 Rand Rd, Suite 400 in Kildeer on Wednesday, March 17 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm and 33% of the proceeds from your order will be donated to the Barrington Giving Day Youth Board.
