Join HIM Professionals for Friday's HIM Community Chat
Connecting the HIM community over the past ten weeks with CHIA’s COVID-19 HIM Community Chats has demonstrated the collaboration, agility and adaptability of California’s health information professionals. While are thrilled to have connected over 100 registrants each week, our Community Chats will be placed on hold until after the Virtual CHIACON20. Look for the next HIM Community Chat to be held on July 31, 2020. The CHIA Board of Directors will be evaluating ways to continue to connect the HIM community by sharing operational challenges and best practices on an ongoing basis.

Although we don’t know what the future brings as we navigate the challenges and move into a “new norm”, CHIA Past President Maria Caban Alizondo has coined a new phrase, as she eloquently stated “We are in transition from eHIM to vHIM (virtual HIM) professionals. To lead our organization’s forward into this ever-changing environment will require leadership soft skills – working with people, promoting flex-teleworking and projecting our future state.”

While we take a pause to navigate the new norm, we look forward to connecting again on July 31st to discuss the changes that have occurred in the variety of health information environments. We sincerely hope that the chats have helped you find your footing, gain new ideas and take immediate steps to support your efforts. Don't forget to join us for tomorrow's chat!

IFHIMA COVID-19 HIM Practice Global Study
During last week’s CHIA HIM Community Chat (May 22, 2020), Lorraine Fernandes, RHIA, International Federation for Health Information Association (IFHIMA) 2019-2022 President, shared the results of an international study designed to achieve the following goals:

  1. Understand what potentially modified HIM practices and priorities are in our member nations, and individual member countries, in reaction to COVID 19;
  2. Define differences in previous state vs current state, on a national or regional basis, if relevant and appropriate;
  3. Document and review our findings based upon individual responses that will be aggregated, and use quote if appropriate to add human interest and a storyline;
  4. Create an IFHIMA “story” based upon the findings in an expeditious fashion, i.e. so they can be presented to the membership in May

A summary of results from 180 participants across the globe was presented to those in attendance during the Chat. Lorraine summarized the challenges that have created new opportunities impacting data, technology, communication, behavioral impacts, organizational development and management. Lorraine reaffirmed the HIM community connection across the world stressing the importance of skillsets that health information management professionals bring to their organizations to govern information during this challenging time. The recording for the HIM Community Chat is on CHIA’s COVID-19 Resources webpage, or listen to the entire webcast presented by IFHIMA here.
