Become a friend of the
Durham Farmers' Market!
The Durham Farmers' Market has been a community destination in downtown Durham since 1999 thanks to YOU, our loyal customers and supporters. Over the years we have grown the market and continue to provide Durham with an event that nourishes the soul of our wonderful city.  You may not know that the market operates primarily off of the weekly stall fees from our farmers and artisans. Despite this modest budget, we are constantly working to make fresh and healthy food accessible to our entire Durham community.  We want to continue expanding the offerings of our market and need your help to make this happen.  The Friend of Durham Farmers' Market program provides an opportunity for you to invest in the future of the market by making recurring or one-time contributions via PayPal or check. Examples of how we will use the funds include expanding our children's programming, continuing our outreach efforts to underserved communities in Durham, and developing our nutrition education programs. We invite you to invest in your market. Please continue stimulating our local food economy and join our effort to build a stronger, healthier Durham. Thank you!

Honeygirl Meadery
Honeygirl Meadery is a small urban meadery in downtown Durham, making an ancient craft beverage for modern days. Mead is essentially wine made from honey, with many different styles that include additions of fruits, flowers and herbs. Our meads are hand-crafted libations made in small batches, using both local and global true source honey, local fruits, herbs and flowers. They are naturally gluten free. Our downtown Durham Tasting Room is open on Fridays from 3-7 pm, Saturdays from 1-6 pm and Sundays from 1-5 pm.

This week we will be sampling: the newest release of our Lavender Mead , an infusion of fresh-dried local lavender flowers from Sunshine Lavender Farm in our orange blossom traditional semi-sweet mead.

We will also be sampling our Hibiscus Lemonthyme Mead, floral, earthy and herbal dry-style mead with NC wildflower honey, dried hibiscus petals and fresh lemonthyme.

And we will also be sampling our Strawberry Mead , made with local strawberries and NC wildflower honey. Fresh and fragrant, light-bodied and dry, with a soft, lingering strawberry finish - pairs perfectly with champagne for a "mead-mosa!"

We will also have bottles available of our Blueberry Mead, made with local blueberries and NC wildflower honey; and our Apple Cyser Mead, a dry-style cyser with crisp, tart apple highlights.

Chapel Hill Creamery
The cows are happy! With all the rain we've had,   July is offering the herd unusually lush, tender, abundant grass for this time of year. The bounty of the pasture is reflected in the depth of color and flavor in the cheese, bringing the nutrients of the sun, soil, and grass to YOUR table! "Pot of Gold" mozzarella, anyone?

The tomato festival will be fun and we'll have Fresh Mozzarella to buy for Caprese Salad, pizza with our Italian Sausage, or just melted on a piece of good bread. All our cheese is made with the milk from our Animal Welfare Approved Jersey cow herd.  We also have Carolina Moon, similar to a Camembert; fresh Dairyland Farmers, moist and tangy; creamy Danziger, our savory, washed rind Hickory Grove; and firmer more aged Calvander which is a smooth version of Asiago. Pick up some Calvander to make Pesto. We are very low on Pheta but have a new batch aging.

Pork Chops are back!  All our pork is from our pigs who drink the nutritious whey from cheese making. Sausages include Mild Italian, Smoked Andouille, Polish, Chorizo, Sage and Maple Breakfast links, and Mild Country Breakfast.   We also have Ribs, ground pork, and Molasses cured Bacon for BLTs. Bring your cooler and enjoy the market!

Maple Spring Gardens
Happy hot summer afternoon to you! We are currently putting in our fall cucurbits out here at the farm. For us that means a late planting of cucumbers, some zucchini, and winter squash. Cucurbits also include melons like cantaloupe, watermelon, and honeydew (which we don't grow), and they are a very interesting family of plants. They love heat, and need lots of water, but they also like soil that is fairly well drained. They are also notoriously finicky about being transplanted, and must be babied if you are planting starts. However, if you plant from seed they'll go gangbusters! Luckily for all of us they are tremendous at shading out competing weeds which means that by the time they get totally out of control you really don't have to do much to them.  Just something to think about as your enjoying a cucumber or melon at market...

This week we'll be bringing blueberries, blackberries, cantaloupe, sun jewel melons, arugula, peashoots, peppers, eggplant, potatoes, onions, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley, chives, basil, garlic, tulsi, and our selection of handmade teas and herbal infused vinegars. We look forward to seeing you there!

Stop by and visit with Jack and select some delicious bison meat for weeknight family dinners or for gatherings with family and friends on the weekend.  Sandy made a quick and delicious bison dinner this past week using her Christmas gift, "The Spiralizer". Instead of noodles she created Zoodles with fresh zucchini. She boiled the zoodles for 2 minutes, drained and covered them with bison spaghetti sauce she made using Prego sauce with mushroom and ground bison. Quick and easy.

Soul Cocina
Soul   Cocina  is a combination of eco-friendly philosophy and cutting-edge, dynamic approach to plant-based cuisine. We draw inspiration from Latin-American traditions and the availability of locally grown produce to create imaginative concepts.

We offer delicious tamales made the artisan way: with love, care and attention to detail. To ensure we respect tradition, we source wholesome ingredients before steaming them in banana leaves, creating a flavorsome and aromatic product. We pride ourselves on taste and quality, and it won't go unnoticed. Every bite you take will give you a taste of the rich Colombian heritage our tamales are built on.

We will also have soups and pasteles de yuca: delicious roasted yuca pockets filled with red lentils, brown rice and spinach. A handheld food very similar to empanadas, only gluten-free and made with wholesome ingredients!
