As a nonprofit, we rely on the generosity of our community to help us maintain our beautiful building and provide a wide variety of innovative programming for people of all ages and abilities.
In 2023 we held free, quarterly intergenerational arts events, including:
- a new Grandparents' Day workshop with bookmaking activity
- 6th annual Valentines-making day
- 3rd annual Lemonade Social with gelli printing activity
- upcoming - a new Youth Art Holiday Market (Dec. 9, 2023 1-4:00)
In 2023, we stewarded our 1905 building with projects of:
- converting an old boiler to replace one taken out of service
- building a new stage, with the help of BSA troop 10
- installing new alarm sensors
- installing a WiFi mesh for better building coverage
- refinishing badly aging woodwork
In 2023, we collaborated with many volunteers and community groups to amplify what the arts can do, including:
- celebrating CAAL community volunteers
- 14th annual Lexington Open Studios - with a rock band and activities in our new printmaking studio
- 9th annual ArtWalk, complete with online interactive map
- bringing preschoolers in for LexFun's Winterfun program
- hosting Girl Scouts for a LexSeeHer book art workshop
- building environmental advocacy through sculptures on the lawn with LexZeroWaste.
In 2023, MCA collectively employed 80 staff and worked with 58 volunteers. We saw over 1600 students in music, dance, theater, and the visual arts, and even more visitors at our free events.
In 2024, we look forward to an equally full programming calendar as well as:
- building an elevator,
- converting to heat pumps
- making our building ADA compliant
- building a Patriots' Day Parade float
- spearheading a 250th Battle of Lexington anniversary arts and culture event
-
celebrating the 30th year of running summer camp (which, I can tell you was a labor of love to have kept this record going through the pandemic!)
- celebrating our first year of the new printmaking studio
Our ambitions for 2024 can't be fulfilled without community support. Please consider giving a financial gift to help keep our community aspirations on course!
