On Sunday, June 7, we invite you to join us in celebrating National Cancer Survivors Day. This annual celebration honors “those with a history of cancer, bringing awareness to the continuous challenges faced by cancer survivors, and inspiring hope for the future.”

Who is a cancer survivor and how many are there?

According to the American Cancer Society, “cancer survivor" refers to anyone who has a history of cancer- a person who was diagnosed and is currently in treatment or whose treatment has ended. In their article, Cancer Treatment & Survivorship Statistics, 2025, they state that, as of January 1, 2025, there were 18.6 million cancer survivors in the US and that they expect that number to grow beyond 22 million by 2035.

It is inevitable that many of those cancer survivors and their caregivers are and will be your employees.

How is NEBGH marking National Cancer Survivor Day 2026?

Inspired by The National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation’s mission to encourage people to “connect with each other, celebrate milestones, and share their personal stories of facing cancer,” NEBGH has released a playlist of videos on YouTube that explores the intersection of the workplace and cancer survivorship. Be inspired by cancer survivors and thought leaders who talk frankly about the personal and professional challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis and the vital role employers can play in supporting employees coping with a cancer diagnosis and its aftermath.
