Mental Health Awareness Month
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, which aims to reduce stigma and remind people they aren't alone.
Gender-based violence has a major impact on mental health. Survivors are three times as likely to meet the criteria for PTSD, develop major depressive disorder, engage in self-harming behavior, have suicidal thoughts, and be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Substance use disorders are also six times more likely among survivors.
If you're struggling with your mental health, especially while or after experiencing intimate partner violence, you don't have to struggle in silence. Resources are available. You deserve to feel safe, supported, and well—both physically and mentally.
