The 50th Anniversary of the New York City Landmarks Law

Peg BreenPresident of the New York Landmarks Conservancy will both celebrate and provide an overview of  The 50th Anniversary of the New York City Landmarks Law in her illustrated lecture.  The Landmarks Conservancy is the only organization in New York with award-winning financial and technical programs dedicated exclusively to saving culturally important buildings and historic neighborhoods.  Early successes include saving the U.S. Custom House on Bowling Green and the Fraunces Tavern block.  Ms. Breen will reflect on the impact of the Landmarks Law and discuss the Conservancy's core programs.

As President of the Conservancy, Ms. Breen oversees one of the oldest and largest preservation organizations in the United States.  The Conservancy has loaned and granted more than $40 million, and provided thousands of hours of technical assistance, to individual homeowners, cultural and non-profit institutions, businesses and religious institutions. This has contributed to more than $1 billion in preservation projects throughout New York City and State. The Conservancy also advocates for preservation at the local, state and national levels of government. Ms. Breen is on the Board of Save Ellis Island, the International African American Museum in Charleston, S.C. and Preservation Action.  She also serves on the Advisory Committees for Governors Island and The Lower East Side Tenement Museum. Prior to joining the Conservancy, Ms. Breen held positions in government and the media. For more information on the New York Landmarks Conservancy please visit  www.nylandmarks.org.
