From FMLA/CFRA to the Labor Code:
Understanding the Tangled Web of Leave Laws and How They Apply to You

Leaves of absence laws continue to be a "hot bed" of issues that employers face when employees need time off.  Depending on the size of the employer and the locations of the employees, California employers face the unique situation of being subject to not only the federal and state family leave laws, (like FMLA, CFRA and PDL), but also a myriad of statutory leaves, including required time off to attend a child's school functions, vote, attend certain criminal proceedings, serve as a witness or juror, donate organs or bone marrow, or serve in the civil air patrol, (just to name a few).  Each of the federal and state leave laws carries with it certain rights and obligations regarding both time off and reinstatement rights.  Making it even more complicated, several of these laws also carry obligations regarding continued compensation and/or benefits.  Please join SEAC's expert speakers for a robust discussion of the requirements under each of the various federal and state laws, and learn what obligations employers must be cognizant of, including reinstatement rights, continued compensation, use of accrued paid time off/vacation/sick, continued benefits, and coordination of any continued compensation with disability insurance payments and discretionary compensated leaves under an employer's policies.
