Jim Hall, Senior Epidemiologist
A Comprehensive Look at the 21st Century Addiction Epidemic
in the Age of Poisonous Drugs
Jim Hall serves as Senior Epidemiologist with Center for Applied Research on Substance Use and Health Disparities at Nova Southeastern University. For the past 33 years, he has tracked patterns and trends in Florida as the State’s representative on the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s (NIDA) Community Epidemiology Work Group. Hall has presented at numerous national conferences on the topic of emerging synthetic drugs and Novel Psychoactive Substances and testified before the US Senate Committee on the Judiciary. Jim serves on the Scientific Advisory Panel of the National Institutes of Health’s National Drug Early Warning System and the US Food and Drug Administration’s Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee. He was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Florida Alcohol and Drug Abuse Association in 2017.
Dr. Lina Shihabuddin
Understanding the Role Various Substances Play in the Substance Use Epidemic and Addressing the Magnitude of Amphetamine Use and Misuse in the State of NJ
Dr. Shihabuddin is Chief Medical Officer for the Behavioral Health network of RWJBarnabas Health System who received her BS and MD from American University of Beirut. She completed her adult psychiatry residency at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland then a geriatric psychiatry and neuroimaging fellowships at Mount Sinai, NYC. She is currently a Clinical Associate professor at Mount Sinai. She works closely with the Institute for Prevention and Recovery at RWJBarnabas Health providing medical leadership with innovative programs tackling all addictions.
Dr. Michael Ganon, D.O.
Medication Assisted Treatment: Best Practices and Recovery Innovations
Dr. Ganon is a 1982 graduate Of UMDNJ/SOM and is board certified in Family Medicine. Dividing his primary care between Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine, he has been an Emergency Department Director as well as a Paramedic Medical Director. With an early interest in Addiction Medicine Dr. Ganon directed an active withdrawal management (detox) and rehab center in Delaware in the early 1990’s. More recently, he has worked extensively in an Outpatient Treatment Program in St. Mary’s, Georgia, overseeing the care of those seeking treatment for substance use disorders, as well as consulting for a withdrawal management program in New Jersey. Dr. Ganon has served as a consultant with The Center for Prevention and Counseling (CFPC) since May of 2018, providing Medication Assistant Treatment (MAT) to those who are diagnosed with moderate to severe alcohol and opioid use disorders. In addition, in his practice with Genesis Addiction and Behavioral Health, Dr. Ganon offers quality care to the community in collaboration with other substance use treatment facilities. Dr. Ganon is actively pursuing board certification in Addiction Medicine, and is the Medical Director of CFPC’s Integrated Recovery Innovations program, which provides MAT, evidence-based substance use treatment, recovery supports and wellness activities for individuals from Sussex County who have moderate to severe opioid use disorders.
DEA Agent, Tim McMahon
Widening the Lens on the Opioid Crisis
Special Agent, Timothy P. McMahon, has been with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) since October 1998. Prior to becoming a Special Agent with the DEA, Tim spent six years as a trooper with the New York State Police. Special Agent McMahon has been assigned to enforcement and task force groups, served as the special agent recruiter for New Jersey and is currently assigned as the Public Information Officer and Demand Reduction Coordinator, DEA, NJ.
