BRINGING CHRIST TO THE FRONTLINES

Supporting Ukrainian military chaplains who bring healing

and faith to soldiers and their families amid war

Dear friends,

Ukrainian military chaplains serve on the frontlines, providing spiritual care, moral guidance, and psychological support to service members, the wounded, and the families of the fallen. Their ministry plays a vital role in strengthening the moral and spiritual resilience of Ukraine’s Armed Forces.

Interfaith Council on Military Chaplaincy under the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine coordinates the work of chaplains in Ukraine. There is also a coordinating body for the Ukrainian churches and religious organizations – the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO), which includes 15 major religious organizations representing over 95% of religious groups in the country. Its members represent a wide variety of faiths, including Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, and Muslim communities.

Break down by confessions:

Total number of chaplains in the Ukrainian Military — 370.

CHALLENGES AND NEEDS

  • Retreats and Rehabilitations

No state funding is available for chaplains’ mental and spiritual care.

  • Transportation Needs

Chaplains lack vehicles; fuel and repair costs depend on donations.

  • Humanitarian Outreach

Support is needed to sustain aid programs for those near the frontline.

  • Children’s Rehabilitation Programs

Funding is required for summer camps and recovery programs for the children of military personnel.

  • Financial Support through Mass Intentions

Chaplains are not assigned to parishes and rely on Mass intentions for income.
