Please join Albemarle County and the UVA's Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library staff for a virtual presentation on the recovery and preservation of materials found inside the 1909 Time Capsule. The virtual presentation will take place via Zoom at 6 pm on Thursday, January 28th.

Background:

The time capsule and items within were recovered during the removal of the At Ready statue in Court Square on September 12th of last year. Over the past four months, conservators have worked carefully to recover some items from the time capsule. It is believed that the concrete foundation expanded over time, crushing the sides of the box and exposing the contents to the elements over the course of the past 111 years.
