EMBRACE THE COMMUNITY

FULTON FRESH MOBILE MARKET

COMING TO CENTRAL UMC

Thursdays May 15th, 22nd and 29th

The Fulton Fresh mobile market was created to educate residents living in communities designated as “food deserts” on the importance of fresh and in-season produce. Every week, participants will sit in an in-person nutrition education and food demonstration class and then be able to receive a free bag of in-season produce from our mobile market to take home and prepare. The produce is not sold; rather, it is given away to individuals who arrive to the nutrition class no later than ten minutes after it begins.

The Fulton Fresh Mobile Market, which will be packed with fresh-grown fruits and vegetables and will come to Central UMC on Thursdays, May 15th, 22nd and 29th at 1:00 pm in the Ministry Center and the upper parking lot.

SUPPORT CENTRAL'S FOOD PANTRY

The Federal government has implemented significant budget cuts that have resonated across various essential programs, including those that support food pantries nationwide. This reduction has notably impacted Central's Food Pantry, which has seen a decrease in food supply from the Atlanta Food Bank. We invite our members to lend a helping hand by purchasing food items that will be distributed to those in need within our community. Together, we can ensure that no one goes hungry and that our pantry remains a light of hope and support. Below, you will find the guidelines for donating food to our pantry. Let's turn this challenge into an opportunity to make a difference!

The Food Pantry accepts non-perishables food item only. Food products should be in cans, plastic and paper containers. NO GLASS CONTAINER PLEASE!

The following products are always in demand:

Canned Meats/Soups

chicken, beef, pork, salmon, sardines, tuna, vienna sausage, etc.

Canned Vegetables

blackeye peas, corn, lima beans, green beans, etc.

Canned Fruit/ Dried Fruit

mixed fruits, peaches, apricots, etc.

Grits/ Oatmeal/ Rice, Raisins, Peanut Butter

Crackers/Cookies, Chips, Juice/Sodas - All kinds

Nuts

peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans, etc.

FROZEN REFRIGERATED FOOD ITEMS REQUIRE APPROVAL FROM THE FOOD PANTRY COORDINATOR.

Bring your donations to the church office in the Ministry Building. If you have questions, please contact Malvin Trawick, Food Pantry Coordinator.

Rev. Brian Tillman Goes to Washington D.C.

I am grateful for the invitation from my friend, Rev. Bo Barber, to spend the day on Capital Hill and to participate in a round-table discussion with 30 clergy and Rep. Hakeem Jefferies, Rep. James Clyburn, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver at the Library of Congress.

One of my questions to the body was, "If Trump is successful in removing tax exempt status from Harvard University will HBCU's and Black Churches be next?"

Rep. Clyburn responded to that question at length and said absolutely! We must fight this in courts and we must win. Rep. Jeffries also informed us that of the 200 or more executive orders signed by Trump, the Democratic Party is challenging almost all of them and in most cases the courts are freezing them. This is rarely reported by the press.

I met separately with Rep. Nikema Williams in her office. We talked about the impact of Trump's policies and how it has threatened Central's Food Pantry.

I visited the Supreme Court and viewed the display of Thurgood Marshall and Brown vs. Board of Education. It has been less than a week since the current Justice Department has dropped its support for school integration policy in Louisiana, calling it "A historical wrong." This will open the door to eliminate integration more broadly.

I also visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The museum is a superb display of Black perseverance and Black excellence in the face of historical oppression. We are no less committed to persevere. God will do what God has always done, blow our minds with how richly he blessed us! That is why we sing, "Through it all, we've learned to depend upon God's Word."
