e-Newsletter - May 2020
The Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County needs your help. We need a crowd, a big crowd, a REALLY BIG VIRTUAL crowd. We are putting out a challenge to all of you to bring together family, friends, and neighbours to support the ALZHEIMER SOCIETY OF SIMCOE COUNTY by walking virtually together to show you care.

Register HERE and join us online Sunday, May 31, 2020 at noon EDT to walk with us as part of our IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's. All donations received and funds raised will help cover the costs to keep vital Alzheimer Society programs and services running in every community we serve in Simcoe County.
Our Connections Matter
Our Connections Matter! Stay connected with us through online social, support and education programs!

Here is just some of the feedback we have received in response to our virtual program offerings:

Virtual Support Groups
"It was really nice to see everyone. Knowing the support is there means the world."

Online Minds in Motion ®  Social Sessions
"Thanks for the ZOOM session. We are pleased that the Alzheimer Society is being so proactive in this difficult time. M. and I had hoped to be able to be in the spring Minds in Motion program and this will certainly help"

Online Education - Client and Public Sessions
"Thank you both for a very informative presentation this morning. It really was an exciting multimedia adventure for me because I am not computer savvy and every step was almost a first for me...for a new endeavour, it was definitely a winner. I really like how your team taught us today, great examples of connecting concepts with our lives. Meeting the other participants was also a rewarding experience. I felt supported and acknowledged."

Just a reminder, there is NO cost to participate in one of our online Zoom sessions. We hope to see you on one soon! For a list of upcoming sessions, please click here.

If you have questions or are interested in participating in one of these programs, please call our office at 705-722-1066.
Meet another amazing volunteer!
Sarah Pickers' motivation to volunteer with the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County resulted from her grandfather's diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Sarah has been volunteering in registration at our Walk for Alzheimer's since 2017. Each year, Sarah enjoys seeing the same people return to the Walk and meeting new participants. "Registration is the first connection that a person has with the Walk, so it is important to welcome everyone with a smile. Working in this role helps me to be connected to the community, helps me to see what the Alzheimer Society is doing in the community. I look forward to it each year."

This year, Sarah will not be helping with registration because the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's is going virtual. Instead, she is raising money to contribute to the Alzheimer Society. Sarah and her parents have a 5 km route that they walk regularly. On May 31 st, when the IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's is broadcast live across Canada, their walk will have a special meaning as it will be in honour of their family member who is a much-loved grandfather, father, and husband.

Whether you are a long-time participant, a first-time walker, or a volunteer, join Sarah and her family as they participate in our 2020 IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's. Click here to sign up today!
Leave a Legacy
At the Alzheimer Society, we want to create a world without dementia through research into the cause, treatment, care strategies and a cure. Our challenge is to change the course of dementia - currently there is not cure, but there is hope. And there is progress. Why wait? You have the power to act!

Our donor spotlight this month is dedicated to all of YOU! We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your ongoing support, the donations, the shoutouts to all the frontline workers and especially for all the kind and caring words you have shared with our very own frontline workers.

We couldn't do what we do without the support of our community. We thank you for being there for us in the past, especially for being here with us in the present, and we thank you for the continued support we will receive.

There is only one thing we will ask of you today - please consider checking in on your older neighbours by phoning them or knocking on their door to see if they need anything. Or, call a friend who may be home caring for someone with dementia. A friendly voice may be just what they need right now.

May you and your family stay safe, stay healthy and take good care of one another.

P.S. We are cleaning up our email lists! We apologize if you're getting an email for the first time in a long time, or if you get it twice because you're on two different lists, or if we've sent you something that you just don't want! We hope that you like what we have to share, but if not, you can easily opt out of receiving further information by clicking on the unsubscribe button below. Fair warning that if you do that you might miss something interesting, or breaking news, or other important information. If this is good-bye, we sure will miss you!
