April 2026

Dear Friends,

This month, we take time to recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Child Abuse Prevention Month, two important observances that remind us of the role each of us plays in building a safer community.

We are reminded that conversations about harm, accountability, and survivor support can emerge in many spaces, including within institutions and individuals we may respect.

At Valley Oasis, our commitment remains clear. We center survivors, promote safe and respectful communities, and advocate for accountability in all spaces. This work calls for both compassion and courage as we navigate complex conversations while ensuring those impacted remain at the center.

Prevention begins with awareness, but it grows through action. Throughout April, we invite our community to stand with survivors, raise awareness, and help create a culture of safety, dignity, and support across the Antelope Valley.

Together, small actions create meaningful change. Thank you for helping us raise awareness and support survivors in our community.

With appreciation,

Valley Oasis

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Join Valley Oasis' Sexual Assault Response Services Program this Demin Day on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Wear Denim and "USE YOUR VOICE" to support survivors and challenge misconceptions surrounding sexual violence. By participating, you help stand in solidarity with survivors and combat the misconceptions that surround sexual violence.

Other Ways to Participate:

  • Use Social Media: Share photos of yourself in denim using #DenimDay and tag Valley Oasis @ValleyOasis on various platforms
  • Donate and Fundraise: Become a "Dollars for Denim" crowdfunder or ask friends, family, and colleagues to donate to the Valley Oasis local rape crisis center.
  • Educate Yourself and Others: Speak out against victim-blaming comments, jokes, or attitudes that promote sexual violence. Learn about consent, healthy relationships, and the facts about sexual assault to help dispel harmful myths.
  • Advocate for Change: Volunteer for a local sexual assault center or crisis hotline. Contact your representatives to advocate for policies that protect survivors and fund prevention services.
  • Support Survivors: The most important way to participate is to believe, support, and advocate for survivors without judgment or blame.

Child Abuse Prevention Month

In honor of Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month, Kayla's Place is proud to continue its mission of providing trauma-informed care and supportive services for children and youth ages 4-17 who have experienced abuse, neglect, or other traumatic experiences.

Our team of dedicated clinicians

and advocates fosters a safe, stable, and nurturing environment where healing can begin. Through developmentally appropriately therapuetic services, individualized emotional support, and meaningful family engagement, we empower young people to build resilience, strengthen coping skills, and restore a sense of safety and hope for the future.

Throughout the month of April, Kayla's Place is also working to elevate community awareness around the prevention of child abuse and sexual assault. This includes increasing understanding of warning signs, promoting early intervention, and reinforcing the importance of a survivor-centered support. Prevention is a shared responsibility, one that requires the active involvement of families, schools, professionals, and the broader community to ensure every child is protected, valued, and heard.

How You Can Support Prevention and Healing:

Community members play a vital role in creating safer environments for children. You can make a difference by:

  • Learning to recognize the signs of child abuse and trauma
  • Supporting organizations that provide trauma-informed services for youth
  • Promoting safe, stable, and nurturing environments for children
  • Raising awareness throughout April and beyond
