Collect of the Day and Scripture readings assigned for Proper 8 | |
Arriving at Mass without preparing our hearts can feel like sitting down to a grand feast while still full of the noise and distractions of the week. Engaging with scripture and prayer beforehand acts as a spiritual tuning, quieting internal chatter so we can truly hear God's voice. When we review the Sunday readings ahead of time, the words simmer in our minds, transforming us from passive listeners into active participants ready to receive the Eucharist. By intentionally anchoring ourselves in God's word before stepping through the church doors, we transition from the frantic pace of the world into a sacred space of receptive grace.

Happy Father's Day
This past Sunday, our parish celebrated the incredible gift of fatherhood. Fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, and father figures carry a profound responsibility to lead, protect, and love their families in the reflection of God our Heavenly Father. Father Kevin offered a blessing over all the men in our congregation, praying for God to grant them continued strength, wisdom, and patience in their daily vocations. We extend our deepest gratitude to all our fathers for their quiet sacrifices and unwavering devotion, and we continue to lift them up in prayer throughout the year.

Welcoming Our Newly
Confirmed and Received!
Our parish recently celebrated a beautiful moment as we formally welcomed several of our members into a deeper relationship with Christ and the Episcopal Church. During his recent visitation, the Right Rev. W. Nicholas Knisely, Bishop of Rhode Island, laid hands on Louis, who was newly confirmed in his faith, sealing his commitment to live out his baptismal covenant in our community.
We also extended a joyful and warm welcome to those who chose to be formally received into the Episcopal tradition by Bishop Knisely, bringing with them a rich tapestry of faith backgrounds:
- Ginny, who was received into the church from the United Methodist Church.
- Kevin, Judy, and Alanna, who were all received into the church from the Roman Catholic Church.
As already baptized Christians, their reception marks a conscious, intentional decision to make this parish and the wider Episcopal Church their spiritual home. Please join us in offering your warmest congratulations and prayers to Louis, Ginny, Kevin, Judy, and Alanna. We are incredibly blessed!

With Gratitude: Thanking Bishop Knisely for His Visitation
On behalf of the entire parish community of Saint John’s, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Right Rev. W. Nicholas Knisely, Bishop of Rhode Island, for his recent pastoral visitation. It was an absolute pleasure to welcome him to our parish as he preached the Word and celebrated the Holy Eucharist with us.
We are deeply thankful for Bishop Knisely's ongoing leadership, guidance, and steadfast support for the ministry and people of Saint John’s. His presence among us—especially as he confirmed and received the newest members of our church family—was a powerful reminder of our connection to the wider Body of Christ. Please join us in keeping Bishop Knisely and the leadership of our Diocese in your prayers as they continue to shepherd our community in faith.

Bringing the Word to Our Youngest Worshipers: Sunday Children’s Sermon
We are delighted to remind our parish family that a special Children’s Sermon is offered during our Sunday Mass! This is a dedicated moment in the liturgy designed just for our youngest parishioners, giving them a chance to gather at the front of the church to hear the day’s Gospel message brought to life in a way that is engaging, accessible, and uniquely geared toward them.
We encourage all parents and grandparents to bring their little ones and have them participate in this wonderful tradition. It is a beautiful opportunity for our children to feel personally welcomed into the liturgy and to begin forming a lifelong love for God's Word. We look forward to seeing all of our parish children this coming Sunday!
| | | Welcoming Our New Sexton, Kevin Jarolaman! | | |
We are absolutely delighted to announce that Kevin Jarolaman will be joining our staff as our new Sexton, beginning July 1.
The role of Sexton is vital to the daily life of our community, ensuring that our historic spaces are ready for worship, ministry, and fellowship. Kevin brings a wonderful energy and a commitment that makes him a perfect fit for this position.
Getting to Know Kevin
As Kevin steps into this role, he will be overseeing the care of our facilities and assisting with the logistical coordination that keeps our campus running smoothly. Whether it is preparing our spaces for Sunday services, coordinating behind the scenes for special events, or maintaining the beauty of our grounds, Kevin’s work will touch every part of our shared community life. He is a veteran and newly received into the Episcopal Church.
"A warm welcome is the foundation of community, and the care of our physical spaces is a direct extension of our hospitality."
Say Hello!
Please join us in giving Kevin a tremendously warm welcome when you see him around the campus starting next month (or on Sundays and Wednesdays). We are incredibly grateful to have him on board and look forward to the dedication and spirit he will bring to our staff and congregation.
Welcome to the team, Kevin!
